Kidd Leaving The Nets? Uh Oh...

This story comes from realgm.com...I don't think there is a problem posting this here, this isn't a paysite, but if there is, sorry and I will delete it...

    Nets mum on Kidd's future
    Added: 2nd December, 2002 7:25 AM ET

Frank Hughes of the News Tribune reports that the Nets aren’t commenting about Jason Kidd’s future. The all-star guard will be a free agent next summer and more than a few teams will have the money to offer him a considerable contract.

Seattle will have a decision to make this summer as well. Gary Payton will be a free agent as well. If Seattle decides not to re-sign Payton, they would love to see Jason Kidd in a Sonics uniform. Considering the Sonics are a rebuilding team, Kidd is unlikely to put himself in that position. But Sonics owner Howard Schultz has a good relationship with Kidd.

When asked about the situation, Nets GM Rod Thorn said that it’s not a lock that Kidd will return to the Nets next year. "From the time he got with us, he has steadfastly maintained that he is going to become a free agent," Thorn said. "I think that because of the success we had last year ... if he feels we have a chance to do well, our chances are better that he will be with us."

Hughes writes that three teams will likely be able to offer maximum contracts to try and lure Kidd from New Jersey. Utah could have more than $20 million available if Karl Malone and John Stockton retire. Denver could have about $16 million, and San Antonio could have about $15 million with the retirement of David Robinson and is the team most likely to land him. Seattle could have about $9 million if it does not re-sign Payton.

Thorn did mention the possibility of a sign-and-trade deal for Kidd, but said it’s not in the Net’s plans right now. "At this time, we are not interested in a sign-and-trade," Thorn said. "But you never know what is going to happen. We have only played 17 games, we have a long ways to go this year, and strange things happen."

uh ohhhhhhhhhhh sorry for being rude. but to be serious here....i think Kidd likes playing for the Nets but he's not in love with the idea of being there for the long haul. everybody knows he's loves the Western Conference since it's more suited to his style of play. and San Antonio is the place i think he'll go after the season. that way he can play with Tim Duncan. and the Spurs will definitely give Duncan his contract if they know they can have both of them there. if not San Antonio, it could be the Magic. it's not the Western Conference but it is Orlando. he'll be with TMac. but nothing's set in stone. cuz he does like the Nets he could just decide to keep it up with them. but my gut feeling is that he will be gone. i know one thing though....that team should be regretting trading for Mutombo. they need to find a new place for him i heard they already trying to find his worth around the league. i told everybody...that as a Sixer fan, i wanted Mutombo GONE and was happy as hell that he went up to the Nets. now they're getting the burden

I'm starting to think that Kidd wants to go down in history as one of the best players at helping a rebuilding teams. If he keeps this up, he will have helped out alot of teams, that suck after he leaves...maybe he just wants to go down in the record books as being somebody who is very valuable to any team....

but i dont think Kidd could be that selfish...

Bottom line is he wants a ring.

If NJ don't look llike getting him one, he'll go IMO.

The Mutumbo trade didn't make much sense. Todd MaCulloch's game suits Kidd much better (better hands) and KVH got rubbished unfairly. His scoring got them past the Celtics.

They basically did it to appease Martin and Kidd and give Jefferson more court time. Unfortunatley, Jefferson can't shoot at all. Air ball v Phoenix...KVH wins that game if he's there.

Pair Kidd with Duncan and look out.

I believe he's going to resign with the Nets. If he goes anywhere though, my guess would be San Antonio.

u think so "grtwhtsk"? even with TParker there?....
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

I think he will stay with the Nets for awhile. Besides who doesn't want a ring? That's practically one thing that everybody in Sports has in common, which is to win at least one championship.
Finally, IF he does leave NJ for another team, I hope it ain't the Lakers. 3 Stars on one team is a

This is old news to Net fans. Kidd said from the get go that he will not make a decision until this offseason. That being said, I'm not so sure he'll return with the Nets due to the Mutumbo trade. Kidd is forced to do everything this year, injuries are starting to kick in, and Martin and Jefferson are not consistent enough to help out Kidd with the scoring.

The one bright spot for Nets fans if Kidd left is Rod Thorn. There's no way Kidd leaves and the Nets are left empty handed. Granted, it will take a superstar player to fill Kidd's shoes but, anything is possible when Thorn is the GM.

ya, sonics rebuilding, thats why they are arguably better then the spurs and a top 3-7 teams in the league. I believe the sonics will have more cap room then that after this season, not much more but more, sense gary payton contract and kenny andersons 9 million deal are both up.

Kidd is a West coast guy. Hell, Dallas was way too far east for him.

Look for him to sign as close to California as possible.
