    This one had me laughing....

    Vince Carter on Kobe:

"The only bad thing about it is that younger kids, whose minds are easily warped, are going to think, 'Ohhh! I am going to go out there and do it instead of [honoring] the team concept first," Carter told the Newark Star-Ledger. "That is what is missing in the game, guys understanding how to play as a team."

This from a guy who admitted that he completely quit on his team to force a trade....hilarious.

"As for a message to the youth," Bryant said, addressing Carter's ridiculous statement. "My message is that if you work hard, you can go beyond anyone's expectations, even your own."

The kids are listening, if nobody else is.

My daughter Mary Clare, who turns 11 today, walked downstairs at the start of this season wearing a Kobe Bryant jersey. It had been buried in her closet for two years. I wondered why she had pulled it out.

She didn't say he was a reborn saint or a role model, she used a different word.
"He was bad a long time ago," she said. "He's cool again."
Why can't we just be cool with cool?
    La times.

Vince might be my favorite player playing right now. But I know he shouldn't be the one speaking about playing team ball.

And for the LATimes quote, no matter what you feel about how good Kobe is, PLEASE don't repeat anything that would actually suggest Kobe is a role model for kids.

I think (in my point of view) Carter did not quit on TOR as a player but rather because of the pressure the media and fans put in his shoulders. He was eager to lead TOR at first until he realizes he doesn't have what it takes to be a leader. He is more confident now in NJ that he is just the 2nd or the 3rd guy in the team in some nights. With Kidd the face of the team he could now concentrate on being just a regular player. Kidd cannot drop you 30 points a game but he knows how to lead, Carter can drop you 30 per game but he can't lead a team. That is why I never hated Carter when people looked at him as if he is the biggest KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) in the NBA, because I realized people have limitations, and it just so happen that being a leader is not one of Carter's quality. Of course Carter is entitled to his own opinion with what he said to Kobe (after all this is a free country except the tax), but he should never forget he has his chance in TOR and he blew it.

Carter may be a hypocrite... but he's speaking the truth.

I guarantee you kids will see what Kobe did and decide to never pass the basketball again. Not really Kobe's fault... but that's the way it is.

I don't think Kobe Bryant is a role model on any spectrum of the scale. No one should be emulating him as a person, as a teammate, as a leader or as a basketball player. The man is in his own world, and should be kept there.

No normal child should be acting like Kobe Bryant, unless of course it's crying after a loss in a playoff game. But they can get away with that because they're under ten years old.

Anyways... it's not Kobe's fault kids (and certain adults) look up to him. They just don't know better.

The only good thing a kid should take from Kobe is his desire to win instead of giving up but I agree with pretty much everything else you say.

Vince Carter is completely right. Too many younger kids are turning into ball hogs watching players like Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant jack up 30-40 shots per game. How many shots did the rest of the Lakers shoot in the 2nd half during that game? 1, maybe 2? Kobe is a good player, don't get me wrong. But during this 81-point game, he was just straight up selfish. And this is exactly why Kobe will never be as good, or better than MJ. MJ got his team involved. MJ made players that were pure crap (Longley and Wennington), good. He also made average players like Pippen, Harper, Kerr, and Rodman better. If it wasn't for MJ, the Bulls would have been an 8th seed team (barely) every year they won the championship.

Kobe needs to realize that he needs to setup Odom, Smush, and Bynum. As well as get his own #'s. Just like Jordan did his entire career.

Luc Longley and Bill Wennington were not good players. They were average at best, in fact, Longley actually became more efficient after he left Chicago for Phoenix. To call Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman "average" is simply laughable. Ron Harper was clearly getting less touches in Chicago. Steve Kerr was pretty much the same in Chicago as he was everywhere else. If the Bulls would be scraping by to get an 8th seed why were they 2nd in the Central in 1993-94, and one shot away from the Eastern Conference Finals that year, thanks to an MVP-calibre season from the "average" Scottie Pippen?

Really though, if you think about it the guys all the kids know about are guys who score, the kids could care less about the guys that have the most assists or steals or blocks....kids want to see crossovers and alley oops and dunks...they could care less about the "team concept"

Carter tried to clear it up that he was making a general comment on the NBA and not at all attacking Kobe. People can have their opinion on VC but he gets his teammates involved and rarely hogs the ball. He's a good teammate.
