you guys must feel pretty insecure right away to turn to Jordan's name lol

seriously, i take it as a compliment now. Whenever Kobe shows his greatness, people are rushing to say " oh, it was good, but not as good as MJ". Just chill...........

Re: Lakers vs Mavs : WILL Be A Instant ESPN Classic...

The mere fact that the Lakers made it a GAME in the 4th quarter was enough of a victory. If the Mavs keep the game out of reach, the Lakers fall further into a tailspin and have to deal with the media. Just letting the Lakers get back into the game just gave the Lakers life again, regardless of if they won or lost. The Lakers are back now...

regarding the statement implying that MJ fans are "insecure" about his legacy...

...........I'm not threatened one bit by Kobe's success. Why? Well I'm not trying to start flame wars (flame back if you want to)...but Kobe has yet to single-handedly lead to his team to a title......LET ALONE 6 TIMES. C'mon, let's be real, we've seen Kobe's record without Shaq -- I think Kobe's win % is somewhere near 50%. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not saying he's nothing w/o Shaq. But I'd like to see how well Kobe could handle his OWN team, for an ENTIRE SEASON. Kobe is GREAT, for sure -- and call me crazy for thinking this, but I think Tracy McGrady is EVERY BIT AS GOOD as Kobe...infact, I'd give the nod to TMac, cuz he's a better defender, and he carries that whole team on his shoulders. It's alot easier to carry a team when you're sharing the weight along the wide shoulders of Shaq, period.

...so when Kobe takes HIS team to a title 6 TIMES, THEN I'll mention Kobe in the same breath as you know who...

            iLLWill,

You're right, we don't need to take the thread in that direction. But let me just clear up one thing for you. Kobe is a MUCH better defender than TMAc and that is one of the reasons why he has the overall edge on him.

i think man to man, kobe is the better defender.
but t-mac is more lengthy, and he puts much
better pressure on shots, and probably is a better blocker
but i think they add up to be pretty close overall defenders
                  definitely an elite bunch

I think you hit the nail on the head, jay. That's why I'd give TMac a slight nod. But I think they are pretty even defensively...PUSH!

OF COURSE I realize the importance of MJ's supporting cast -- I'm a BULLS fan, not just an MJ fan, so I acknowledge every little contribution made from his teammates...from Paxson, to Hodges, to Levingston, to BJ, to Stacey King, to Kerr, to Brian Williams, to Rodman.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't have used the words "single-handedly".....but I was trying to emphasize that it was HIS team, and everything went through HIM (sorta like Shaq). OBVIOUSLY you had to worry about Scottie, and you had to account for guys like Kukoc and Kerr. But what I'm talking about is, taking the weight of your whole team, and carrying it for more than just a measly 10-15 games (ala Kobe) -- for ENTIRE SEASONS.

More specifically, I'm talkin about, how would Kobe hold up for an entire season, if HE were the PRIMARY focus that opposing defenses are gunning at and aiming to shut down??? I'm NOT dissing Kobe, I'm just saying, that remains to be seen. That's why it is so friggin amazing to see what IVERSON and McGrady do, and they put up with it night after night...

Anywayz...of course I know it was a TEAM effort that achieved those 6 titles. That's why you won't hear me knocking the Lakers as a team. 1 or 2 players can take a team to the playoffs, but it takes a complete team to win a championship...
