Re: L will address playoff Format..... its about time
lmao. i remember having a thread on this a while back, and everyone thought the current format was the best way that they could do things, which i totally disagreed with. if the top 2 teams in the west have to face eachother in the second round that would be a travesty. they should just go ahead and modify the format for this current season.Comment

Originally posted by tenthI'm one of the people you're talking about, but this is completely different. Nobody said it was the best way to do things, but that there are going to be issues no matter what format you come up with. Also, the idea that was mentioned as being kicked around in the article is something I haven't heard suggested before, and seems like it would be interesting. The proposal of abolishing divisions for any purpose beyond scheduling is what I disagreed with.
here's my 2 cents:
let the division winners keep a playoff seed.. but once the regular season is completed, reset the seeds according to overall record. seems pretty simple and fair.Comment

I vaguely remember that. I dont agree with the current format at all, neither do I agree with the 4 game 1st round.Comment

The NBA playoff format is a joke.
The winners of the division will be ranked 1,2 and 3.
The match-ups should be decided by the seeds.
First Round:
1 vs. 8
2 vs. 7
3 vs. 6
4 vs. 5
Second Round:
Highest Seed vs. Lowest Seed i.e. 1 vs. 4
And then the other match-up i.e. 2 vs. 3Comment

I'm all for altering the playoff format. Seeding by record makes sense.
Commissioner Stern left the interviewer hanging about his problem with a franchise in Vegas, though. He just restated that gambling wasn't it..

I like the seeding based on record format better, it's more fair because then teams might actually work harder during the regular season then just to secure their division if their division is weak.
I still like the best of 7 for first round because then there's more basketball.Comment

Seeding by record makes much more sense than giving the division winners the 1-2-3 seed. No way should Denver be ahead of San Antonio / Dallas. They may play in different divisions, but their schedules aren't that different.Comment

I'd be a little disappointed if the seedings were based 100% on record. Divisions would be essentailly useless. I've really enjoyed the late-season divisional rivalries that winning a division currently creates. There's definitely a problem with the current system, so I'm interested in seeing what creative situation they can come up with, as they don't seem sold on making it 100% record either.Comment

Yes but doesnt this give a lot of incentive to win the division then? Which leads to better basketball down the stretch, in my opinion.Comment

Re: L will address playoff Format..... its about time
no matter how the seeding works, teams are going to be fighting for playoff position at the end. whether they're fighting for the division, or fighting for a better record, the games will still mean just as much at the end of the season.Comment
