Is it disrespectful to go after a record?

There's a saying that there's no meaningless games. Raps vs. Bobcats was on TV today so I watched it for a bit, while not meaningless it's better to lose at this point since they're both out of playoff contention. I started thinking why not just feed the ball to Charlie V on the inside the whole game and try for Wilt's record or James jacks up 3 pointers all day or Bobcats only taking shots after getting the ball from Felton for the single game assist record. Would it be disrespectful to do something like that?
