still rewards div winners . they should be rewarded, but not by giving them high seedings, and still rewards dal for good season by putting them at 2 instead of 4 . sure, they dont have hca, but they could not win their division. plus they regain hca if they win vs a 43 win team in 1st round. shouldnt be that difficult.

punishes lac for losing games because they now lose hca advantage they would have over mem if they continue to win reg season games.

this works for the west for this yr, did not analyze for the east, or for other years, it may be totally screwed up for other yrs.

Thats the same idea I had... basically give division winners HCA against any team that didnt win a division.

How about division leaders get homecourt advantage only against teams in their own division? If your division is a strong one (Southwest), then you will be rewarded with homecourt against Spurs/Mavs/Grizzlies. If your division is a weak one, you'll get HCA against basically nobody.

We've seen lower seeds take higher seeds to Game 7. Why should Dallas be punished by playing Game 7 in Denver in a 2seed vs. 7seed matchup?

Other than that, base the seedings on team records like bamalam said.

What if the three division winners are all guaranteed a playoff berth, but the seedings are based solely on record? Seems pretty simple.

All this stupid talk about seeding is annoying the hell out of me. If you're a better team, if you DESERVE to win and go to the WCF or the Finals, then you better be able to beat whoever it is regardless of whatever advantages the other team might have. Get over it.

Yeah but based on that logic how is it possible for Dallas and San Antonio to meet in the WCF and play each other?

The point is one of those two teams will knock each other off which means the Lakers, Clippers or Nuggets whom we all know are not better teams than either the Spurs or Mavs have a greater chance of playing in the WCf than those two teams.

I guess the point is even if one of those teams sneak by Phoenix there is no way in hell that means they are better than the two top dogs in the SW Division.

I think the NBA is definetly happy about the east because atleast you know the top 4 teams are getting seeded probably most because of the poor play by the bottom 4 teams. But the west is all screwed up this year.

I understand every team should just deal with it but I'm sure everyone agree's the league does need to take a hard look at this format in the summer.

I find it hard to believe the Clippers are tanking down the stretch to avoid the Mavericks. It's the Mavericks not the Michael Jordan led Bulls teams.

As far as hammering the Clippers if I recall the Mavericks have won the last two games by a combined 4 points. But yes, I am sure you think you know a lot more about the game than I do.

You have to look at the bigger picture.

Going through Dallas and San Antonio to get to the WC-Finals is the toughest road any team has. However, getting the 6th seed and going through Denver and Phoniex actually could have LAC he favorite in both series.

LAC is the better team to Denver. Thats been proven during the season. And in the 2nd round, playing a Phoenix team that struggles rebounding and inside defense plays right into LAC's strength of Brand and Kamen inside. Phoneix very well may be the favorite still but I think thats an excellent matchup for the Clip-show.

Im not validating losing games on purpose, but its obvious in the difference between likely losing in the 2nd round to Dallas and having a good chance to go to the WCF.

So what then, if the Mavericks and Spurs are playing in the 2nd round instead of the WCF, then whatever. What's the difference b/n beating each other in the second round than the WCF. So they could be a little more worn? Championship teams should be able to deal with it.

I know if the Suns were #1 and the Clippers were #4, and were in the same situation, I don't care when I face them. I have faith in my boys to beat the other team.

I understand what's wrong with the system, but, honestly, tough luck.

Well the Clips lost, they started Vin Baker so that should say something. Nice game out of Singleton at least, maybe he can return to his early season form for the playoffs.

LOL, The Clips clinched the 6th spot just as they wanted to and HCA. They just better hope that it doesnt backfire.

^As a Dallas Mavericks fan for the last 5 years, I dont care. Making it to the 2nd round apose to the 3rd round means absolutely nothing to me. Bring SA on int he 1st round for all I care. But if you dont see the meaning for a LAC team that hasnt been to the playoffs in 10+ years or whatever much less win a PO series or two, then you dont understand.

I think the best way to reformat the system is to reseed the team based on record after the 1st round is over. (I hate the idea of giving a 7th seed Denver team HC-advantage over Dallas despite Dallas winning 10+ more games. Makes no sense to me.) So my idea would do like...

                        (1) Spurs vs. (8) Kings
                        (2) Suns vs. (7) Lakers
                        (3) Nuggets vs. (6) Clippers
                        (4) Mavericks vs. (5) Grizzlies

Then in the 2nd round it would look like (assuming the top 4 seeds win)...

                        (1) Spurs [62-20] vs. (4) Nuggets [46-36]
                        (2) Mavericks [61-21] vs. (3) Suns [53-29]

I estimated the record so its not exact, but the idea is there. It still gives the Division winners a top 3 seed while not punishing the a conference for having the 2 best teams and meeting a round early.

Yeah, I think reseeding might be the best option, but I doubt that they'll implement it.

I don't mind playing you guys in the 2nd round, I'm ready, baby!
