I've watched the LA v Phoenix game three twice already...despite not being a Laker fan... and have to say that the Lakers played some of the best team basketball I've seen for ages.
The Triangle allows you to do well even with a weaker roster. Guys like Luke Walton, who'd be out of the league in most sytems, can use their basketball IQ to excel.
It also allows you to get by without a J Kidd type PG...and, let's face it, not many teams have a guy at PG with Kidds IQ.
Why do you guys think so few teams run this type of offense? Personally, there's probably not enough players nowadays who have the smarts to run it...that's likely why it's used little.
Credit where it's due...Phil Jackson has done an incredible job this season. Guys have dramatically improved and, like him or hate him, the man can coach ball.
One team I would have LOVED to have seen run a triangle offense was the Pacers before the Artest thing all went so badly.
Artest running the point forward...using his superior size and ball carrying skills...
Reggie as the shooter in the system...
Jermaine setting up high for the entry pass...guys running off him like they used to off Shaq...he'd have been a good enough passer to make it work...
Instead they walked it up court and dumped it into Jermaine...
Artest was wasted...
And their weakness at PG was exploited each year as Tinsely either was injured or went missing...
The Rockets could also run it well with Mac as the point forward...that would really utilise his passing and size and Yao can pass well also...
Instead, they run ISO's all game and have suffered for three seasons straight with no legit PG...
