1 round down, 3 rounds to go.<o

The New Jersey Nets defeated the Indiana Pacers 96-90 on Thursday, winning the series in six games. <o

<o

Injuries plagued the Pacers this entire series, with Jammal Tinsley, Peja Stojakovic, Jeff Foster and Scot Pollard out due to injuries. That in itself took away many points in two ways. Take Peja Stojakovic out, you lose almost a sure 15-20 points, and get only 7, produced by his replacement Austin Croshere.<o

<o

Take Jeff Foster out, and Danny Granger starts in his place. You gain scoring in Granger, but lose almost 10 rebounds in Foster. Take out Jammal Tinsley, and you make it totally even.<o

<o

Anthony “Magic” Johnson, as he was dubbed by Nets announcer Mark Jackson, scored a whopping 40 points, shooting 16-23 from the field.<o

For the Nets, the players who you think would step up stepped up big-time. The Nets’ “Fantastic Four” combined for 79 points. Jason Kidd, for the second time this playoff series, got a double-double without scoring 10 points. <o

No matter how many injuries there were, the Indiana Pacers were resilient throughout the entire playoff series. After the game, Coach Frank said, “We knew going in that this wasn't a six seed. We were fortunate that Peja was only able to play in two games. We were under no illusion that this wasn't going to be a hard-fought series, that was going to go down to the wire.”<o

<o

And a hard fought series it was.<o

<o

With under a minute to play, Vince Carter missed a two, leading to a potential tie by the Pacers with the score at 92-90. Richard Jefferson came up huge in the clutch, rejecting a follow-up shot by Jermaine O’Neal, putting the game out of reach.<o

<o

Nenad Krstic closed it out with 2 foul shots putting the lead at 4, with under 30 seconds to play. Anthony Johnson then missed a three-point shot, leading to two made foul shots by Richard Jefferson.<o

<o

After Stephen Jackson missed a three pointer, the game was over. Jason Kidd held the ball for the final 7 seconds, and the Nets won with a final score of 96-90.<o

<o

The Pacers season in all reality ends as a success, proving that they CAN put up with the big teams.<o

<o

However, it’s not the future that counts, it’s right now. And right now, the Nets advance to play the Miami Heat in the second round.<o
