Seems distracting to me, and I'd be curious if the practice is generally viewed in a positive or negative light.

Since when do they play music when the ball is in play?
How long have they been playing music after the ball is in play?

Hmm, it must be limited to certain arenas, as I don't think I've heard it before the Suns game tonight.Originally posted by aholbert32For the last 10+ yrs. I actually like it.
Personally, I don't think I am a fan. I don't tune into sports to hear pop songs, but I guess I'm in the minority there.Enjoy football? Enjoy Goal Line Blitz!Comment

Re: Since when do they play music when the ball is in play?
yeah, it used to be chants and organ tones. now they have hiphop music samples during play. I dont think its limited, but some dont play organ and some dont play the hiphop stuff. pretty much selective to every arenaComment

I think it's according to the team and the arena... I would venture a guess that the more historic teams don't have that, like the Knicks and Celtics and Sixers...Comment

I know the Knicks dont do it often. Its actually cool to hear a beat while the ball is in play IMO. I used to love playing to music when I was at the gym back in the day.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

The Knicks don't have to stoop to that level to get fans.Originally posted by TarHeelManI think it's according to the team and the arena... I would venture a guess that the more historic teams don't have that, like the Knicks and Celtics and Sixers...Comment

I don't like the music thing, they should stick with the game music only, like the 'charge!' music, etc. I like some of the defense chants. The garden has a nice organ sound.Comment

Re: Since when do they play music when the ball is in play?
The one gimmick I do remember with the Knicks was in the late 80s when Rick Pitino was coaching them, and they were pressing full-court and chucking up threes left and right... And the big thing was the "Bomb Squad", who I believe consisted of Trent Tucker, Johnny Newman, Gerald Wilkins, Rod Strickland, and Mark Jackson... Anyhow, when one of these dudes would launch a three, you would hear this missile-like whistling in the air, and then something like an explosion if the three was good... I first heard it on the radio, and I remember thinking, "WTF?" Then I heard it in person at the Garden... The Knicks were actually fun to watch back then.Originally posted by GraphikI know the Knicks dont do it often. Its actually cool to hear a beat while the ball is in play IMO. I find it slightly distracting but it's not a huge deal. I mean they don't play hiphop beats during long stretches of the action so it's ok.
I know the Raptors in their early years used to play ALLL kinds of music. I remember when Acie Earl was here and whenever he was at the free throw line they'd play "duke of earl".Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
