man i can't believe they had to fine riley 50,000$ what does this mean you can't speak out if the refs made a bad call. so when the ref had a bad call, we all have to deal with that?!?! i think the league should do something about this, you have the right to complain if the refs had bad calls, riley was fined because of the last touch of kurt thomas and they said it was knicks ball, i am not saying this just because i am a heat fan but why can't coaches or players say anything about the refs whe they called bad calls, i think this rule of the nba isn't fair!

Yes! Pro sports have always been this way! You can't just publicly rip the refs and not expect to get fined. The league has to protect the integrity of the officials, stand behind them, and prevent them from getting swayed to making calls one way or the other. I don't necessarily always agree with the fines, as refs can be just bleeping horrible...but as Bruce Hornsby once said, that's just the way it is...

It's as fair as anything. This is a professional Organization and they won't take fighting or yelling within the bounds of the NBA arenas.
it's a good rule. In the real world, if you got caught yelling at a fellow employee, you may get fired, fined, or suspended.

I think the fine is OK, but $50,000 is way too excessive. Mark Cuban got fined only like $5,000 his first time last season. You can't just go around fining guys arbitrarily like the NBA does...I don't think Riles did $50,000 worth of damage to the league. Fans understand he's mad and just venting off...it's not like we're all gonna think everyone is out to get him.Comment

50 G's is alot of $$. but the reason for it keep there mouth from going off like Riley's did...I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...Comment

I think Riles is doing a little bit more than criticizing refs. He's accusing them of having it in for him which is ridiculous. I've been a referee and refs are concerned with so many things that they aren't even thinking about who they dislike. Bad teams usually aren't aggressive or don't have the ability to be aggressive on offense and don't get the calls.Comment

My stance on it is if the players and coaches get fined for ripping the refs, then refs should be fined for blowing calls. If they are really trying to be a professional oragnization who tries to protect the intergrity of the league, they need to do so on both ends, protect the players and the refs. Ill never forget in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals in 1994 the Bulls played the Knicks and the refs made the most rediculous travelling call on Scottie Pippen with about 15 seconds left to play. The Bulls lost the series, the Knicks went on to get thier asses handed to them by the Rockets and everyone said how Pippen couldnt win without Jordan. When in all actuallity, take away the phantom travel and they are in the finals again. If Pippen said a word about the refs he wouldve been fined, yet the ref ended thier season with no penalty at all. That isnt even close to a fair system.Comment

Yup, so be it. That's how it is. Supposedly, the league reviews the work of each official at the end of the season, and occasionally, but seldomly a ref gets fired (like that chick ref, Violet Palmer just last year)...Comment
