Last years lineup was by Stan. The offseason moves Riley made prior to this season was his call. This is the team he wanted and then he took over. Stan struggled on the lineup Riley wanted in the first (I think) 21 games. What separates between the two now is that Stan choked last year and Riley won it all this year.

Actually, last years lineup was also Riley's. Riley is the President of operations and has made all personal decisions for a very long time. Stan struggled because Shaq was hurt and the players all knew Riley was going to take the reins - he had only spent all last summer talking about his "renewed love of coaching" and the amazing team he had put together. If Riley had backed Stan Van from the get go it wouldn't have been an issue.

In all this praise of Riles (justified, mind you - he made great adjustments when the series went back to Miami) it is important to remember how he treated his "Right hand man". He threw Stan into the fire a couple years back when he quit during training camp and then kicked him to the curb last fall. And remeber Riley struggled with that same lineup when Shaq reurned from injury - it wasn't until late in the season that they really coalesced - and then mainly becuase Posey's injury forced him to start Walker, which ended up being the right move for both players to be effective.

All coaching has some dumb luck to it, and Riley's superb job had more than his fair share.

I think Zo and Payton retire.
