I have no reason to lock it and again think monkey makes some good points... Sadly we have no rule agains blatant "fanboyism" so EWRMETS is not really doing hearm.

I treat him the way I do most children. Pat them on the head give them a tootsie pop and tell em to go play outside while the adults are talking.

Bdoughty, what's with the personal attacks? I know you're the moderator and all but still. I think it is ridiculous how if you are a fan of a game that somebody doesn't like you're either an idiot, a child or both. Mature, refined gamers play 2k3 while the young, rebellious kids play Live. I'm 19, which means you are probably older than me but I'm not 12. So go make your obnoxious, egotistical comments elsewhere. I'm trying to talk about the games.

Wow 19 years old. How about acting like it. Oh and at 19 you seems to be having memory issues as a person was simply trying to express their opinion, and on the third post you add...

Monkey, I'm glad you brought your anti-EA Sports rhetoric out of the NBA Live thread.

                Wally Hoop

Just one point. The discussion was not meant to be anything along the lines of which game is better. As you said, that's been done to death. It shouldn't have even been a debate actually.

The question was, why do Live fans think...year after year..."next year" will be the one the game turns into a simulation. I was just curious, having played it for 6 or 7 incarnations now and having seen it regress more and more into an arcade game.

Stockton blocks six shots...I had Van Horn block 10 one game...it's simplay an arcade game. Nothing wrong with that, it's fun for a quick pick up.

I just wonder when I read so many posts saying "if they slow down the game, add real play sets etc...it will be a great sim" why people think that's ever going to happen.

The game's been out for 7 years now + it's original release as Lakers v C's (still the most fun I ever had on any game) and it's never added anything that indicates any move at all towards realism / simulation.

                So...why the optimism?

This kind of debate doesn't happen with any other game except LIVE. It's kind of bizzare. You don't see debates as to "when will Doom / Quake etc" become a simualtion of armed combat

I haven't played those games for years actually...so maybe they are closer to being 'real' than Live is to being a real NBA experience.

                P.s Emrets...that was a joke mate.

Re: (Constructive) Why will Live ever try to be a \'sim\'?

Monkey,. I think you answered your own question in your very first post.

You stated that it was about the money. It's about where the money is at. And Nba live will be building towards that crowd.

                  And I agree.

That is the only solution/answer, whatever you want to call it, you can come to. Live is in it for the money.

Who the hell doesn't want money?

Video gamers are getting younger by the day.
Just yesterday I was in Circuit City looking around and I saw 6 or so mothers buying their kids an XBOX or a PS2 with their christmas money. The kids looked to be 6 to aorund 10 years old. I only assumed it was for them.

If anything can be resolved out of this I think it would be that LIVE is headed in the direction gamers are headed. More arcade like for the younger children.

It doesn't help that EA provides football gamers with a great sim game that hasn't changed over the years, but then again, the nba fans are getting younger, the game has changed and EA sports is changing with regards to the game of basketball.

You've just hit the nail on the head.

I hope SEGA and ID don't go down the same path.

I have noticed actually that most 2K3 and ID posters seem to be in their 20's / 30's...while the Live players seem to be 10-15.

As a guy who only plays sport games on my x-box...I have a wife who insists we spend time together ...the only thing I play each year is a b-ball game + an NFL game before the nba starts. Thus, I want a sim I can play a full season. It's one of my great chill out times in life...get home after work, play a game of NBA ball, just take my mind off everything. I hope they continue targetting the sim market odviously.

P.S If my Mrs is reading this at home...I was joking
I am a lucky guy actually as my wife is a big b-ball fan also. We went to a game, courtside, for our second wedding anniversary last week.

I haven't played Inside Drive but Live is really more realistic than 2k3. In Live players move, set off the ball screens for each other, and actually defend. In 2k3, you can just push the lame crossover button and get to the hoop everytime.
