Re: Jared Jeffries signs offer sheet with the Knicks
Originally posted by NY4LifeHmm, interesting...I only saw him in the playoffs, and he looked pretty good. Can any Wiz fans shed light on this guy for me? I was just thinking that Isiah has been abnormally quiet. Plus, the knicks have Q, Rose, The B-Man, Lee that can play the 3.
"He supposedly is getting a lot of interest, which surprises me in light of the fact that he's not any good. Yes, he had some nice moments defensively against LeBron James in the playoffs, but he also went 36 minutes without scoring a basket in the clinching Game 6 and shot 39.5 percent for the series.
Besides, nobody's comparing him to Bruce Bowen, and he needs to be that good an on-ball defender because the rest of his game is so poor. Jeffries' career high in points per 40 minutes is a meager 10.4 in 2004-05.<!-- Jeffries put up a meager 10.4 points per 40 minutes last year, and that was a career high for him. --> Also, he is nothing special on the boards, makes way too many turnovers and is worse than Tim Duncan from the foul line. Anybody paying the full midlevel exception for this package will end up horribly disappointed."
He was rated 22 among the "Best of the Rest FAs" behind the likes of Jumaine Jones, Shavlik Randolph, and Reggie Evans.

Well, whats the deal with FA's wanting to leave the Wiz?
What other FA want to leave the Wiz? Jefferies was the only free agent they had this year.Comment

Originally posted by WTFMaybe the Wiz will work out a sign and trade?
As soon as a player signs an offer sheet, the team either had to let the player go or match the offer and bring him back to the team. Or at least, that is how it was in the old CBA, but I dont think its changed...Comment

Originally posted by WTFCan't they match the offer, and then turn around and trade him? Or do they have to keep him for a certain amount of time after matching?
I could be wrong with the number of days, but there is a rule against trading newly signed players."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Jared might not go to the Knicks afterall. If he did, Wshington will definitely be struggling.

Re: Jared Jeffries signs offer sheet with the Knicks
Well if the Wiz don't match (we'll know officially tomorrow but it doesn't look like they will), Isaiah will be starting Jeffries from what I have read before the signing.
C- Curry
PF- Frye
SF- Jeffries
SG- Francis
PG- Marbury
Isaiah said he likes the idea of having three 6'11 players in the frontcourt for defensive purposes which is why he wants to start Jeffries ahead of Jalen Rose (with Rose being a much better player).
Alot of criticism the Knicks way this offseason (the Brown saga, Isaiah named the coach, the "reach" for Balkman early in the draft, the Jeffries offer, etc.).
Throwing contracts out the window, I prefer the effort to address the defensive side of the ball. Balkman looked good in the vegas summer league (he's no Rodman BTW). And Jeffries is a rangy guy who will help guard some of the guys who lit us up in the past.
to address dieselboy, please quote me as saying the Knicks will have the worst record in the league.
we're setting our aspirations LOW this year as to avoid the "3-seed jinx" of yesteryear.Last edited by bigeastbumrush; 08-06-2006, 07:00 PM.Comment
