Riddle Me This, SKILLED ID players...

this is a question for the people who've been playing Inside Drive and have become quite good at it.

the question is... do you still lose? even most of the great teams lose at least 20 percent of the time. i think the mark of a good simulator would be that you still lose, even though you're very good at the game.

cause hey, pros are pros, all stars are all stars, and Hall of Famers are Hall of Famers-- but some nights things just don't go your way.

that's what i hate about basketball simulations most-- that it's like other video games-- you figure out how to beat it, then that's that.

does ID not play like that?

and if you do lose, does it feel real, or is it like NBA Live's rigged crap where all of a sudden you can't make 15 layup dunks in a row?

I have now played 32 games into my season (playing as the Mavs), I was 13-9 and now I am on a 10 game winning streak moving my record to 23-9. I have had a few blowouts in those 10 games and I'm hoping that all of a sudden the game hasn't become too easy. I guess I'll see once I play some good teams.

I played a season in 2002 using Detroit and missed the play offs. I started 2003 using Boston and was 9 and 7.

I started again using the Sonics and was under .500. (32 games in) I wasn't going to make the play offs...so I tanked

One thing I have really noticed with this game is that the teams are about where they should be...ie, it's much harder to win using a weaker team.

I am currently 6 and 3 using Portland...playing a shortened season. Portlands depth has really helped.

I found Detroit and Seattle very hard to win with. Detroit because of their lack of O and Seattle because of their lack of inside D and lack of depth. I'd be in games until Payton or Lewis needed a break, and then I'd really struggle to score.

On the question of "you figure out how to beat it and then that's it"...this is EXACTLY what sets this game apart. Because the teams all actually play DIFFERENT styles, you find that each game is unique.

Using Seattle, I could beat most teams that didn't have a dominant big man. ie, teams with dominant guards I could play tight D using GP and hounding them with Mason and Lewis on the perimeters.

Then when I'd play LA and San Antonio, I was getting crushed. I simply had no one who could match up with Shaq and TD.

I've seen a lot of guys post here all saying you can win game by 10 and lose the next by 20. That comes down to the playing styles.

Each team is, literally, a different challenge.

Dallas have some much O that you should be doing well.

Try playing as Detroit etc and you'll have to play an entirely new style.

Damn, the way you guys talk about Inside Drive makes me want to go out and buy an XBOX. Is this game worth the system?

            Ewrmets

I know your a big b-ball fan and I respect your knowledge even if we disagreed on LIVE 2003.

I actually bought my X-Box just to play ID and 2K. I only play sports games basically.

Yes, ID is worth buying the system for...if, and it's a big if, you intend to play a whole season and you REALLY want a hard core simulation.

If you are the type of guy who is going to get off seeing a cutter go to the lane and the PG find him, or see GP back down and kick it out to Barry for a three, or see Reggie come off screens all game then you'll love this game.

Given how much time you've spent editing LIVE, I think you'll also love the far greater depth of ID's AI settings. Ie, you can change everything...and I don't just mean ratings. I mean, you can edit EXACTLY how every INDIVIDUAL player plays. ie, you can set a guy to shoot mainly fade away J's, or set a guy to post up. You can set a players range to be no more than 5 feet or you can set a player to shoot 3's often.

It's great stuff for a guy like me, and I suspect you, who has wanted this kind of advanced AI for years.

Buying a system is a big call though.

I'm currently in my 2nd season and I'm playing on the top skill level with sliders adjusted slightly to make it a bit more difficult. I'm playing with the Wizards. My first season was rough, lost a lot at the start and then came back to miss the playoffs by 1 or 2 games. Jordan retired, I picked up Wally S. to replace Jordan (I know, he's no Jordan) Played the 2nd season and got the #1 seed in the playoffs after a 20-9 season. I'm currently in the semis against the Celtics and we are at 1 game a piece (I'm playing 1-3-3-3 playoffs). If I was playing with a better team the game might be a little too easy but of course I can always adjust the sliders just a touch and you have a whole new experience. Even with as much experience as I've had and Stackhouse putting up crazy 30+ numbers in the playoffs the Celtics completely handled me in the 1st game of the series. You just can't guard Pierce and Walker!! They're too good.

I played Boston last night actually and Walker had 32 15 and 6...he killed me.

I love the way he steps outside and hits the 3 and long J's. It's not like he racks up big numbers just scoring in the paint.

Every time I have played Boston, one of Pierce or Walker has gone crazy. It's very difficult to contain them both. If I double one, the other destroys me.

I tend to double Pierce as Walker has a better passing game. I have had games where I have doubled Walker all night and he's got a triple double on me.

I just rented ID2003 after renting Live. I returned NBA2k3- never got excited about it. So far, i've seen people making minor adjustments to the sliders. Has anybody seen a need to tweak individual players or does this game have everyone set perfect? I started on All-star level and am getting killed by 50 points. I guess I need to learn some plays. I also am having difficulty shooting- even in practice Kenny Smith says excellent release, but only 20% of the shots are falling. I enjoyed Live, but I think I'm going to like ID better once I get used to it.

                    This game just sounds awesome...

I want it so bad now, I think I'm gonna get rid of NBA2K3 soon.

yes, the game is put together very well. wait til you see 84'-86' JORDAN from the hidden players feature. he looks just like him with the original JORDAN sneakers. i put him on the Bulls along with the the you PiP, and MJ & Kobe went at it. at first JORDAN was killing him (17 in the first quarter) bu tKbe wanted to show him he he had game and played really aggressively.

buy the end of the game Kobe had 31, MJ had 46! i won by 4...
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

Yeah, I just rented this game and it's awesome. It's just very realistic. and the fact that it has a trophy case, player editor, draft, etc are just the little things that make me choose this over Live or 2k3. I've never played 2k3 but I've played cb2k3 and I just prefer ID2003 more for the style. The game overall is jsut well put together

Definately man. This game is insane if you like realistic basketball (well, as real as I've ever seen) from playing the CPU. I could rant all night about how great this game is.
