Re: Is the pivot move really effective at all?
When using the jab step or piviot moves it just gives the player space to operate. I use the jab step in NBA2K3 and depending on the defensive rating of the CPU defender they sometimes go for the fake and I get extra space to shoot the jumper.
SO it works but not all the time.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm X -

Yes the Jab step in 2k3 works to perfection. Your defender backs away to give you room for a jump shot.

It's a little overeffective in NBA 2K3. Any player you get the ball to and start the jab step with will get the respect of Tracy McGrady from the CPU defenders. Defenders have to respect good player's jab steps because they know they can blow right by them(I use TMac as the example because I think he's the best in the NBA at using this move). You don't respect a jab step from Pat Garrity or Eric Piatowski. Guys who are strickly jump shooters won't get much spacing using it in real life because defenders know they won't drive around them to the basket. But the move DOES work in 2K3, you can create a pretty good amount of space for a jumper because the defender will back off when you do it, it just works a little too well with some guys.Comment

Yeah aiaimvp, it's very effective in Nba2k3 but like CM1847 said, it's too effective. It should only work correctly if the player doing the move has a high penetration rating. For instance, Vince,T-mac,Kobe,Paul Pierce etc.... It shouldn't be effective for guy's like Brad Miller and Piatkowski.

It also depends on the defenders DA rating. weak defenders will fall for it all day while players like GP, wont budge.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

That's true, but also not very realistic. Kobe budges when TMac does it to him in real life. The defender's abilitly should come into play, but I think the offensive player's driving ability should be the overriding factor because guys like Kobe, TMac & Iverson can get any defender to bite on it while some of the other guys we mentioned before shouldn't be able to get even the worst defender to bite. It's the first year the move's been in the game and overall it is pretty well done, I just expect it will be tweaked a little bit for 2K4.Comment
