Did something happen to Charles Smith? I didn't see anything in the news...

You think superstar/team treatment in the NBA is a new thing? None of the series contested between the Knicks and Bulls was ever fairly officiated.

And yes, this went both ways, like the year after Jordan retired and the 'foul' on Hubert Davis.

I hated that. I remember being a Knicks fan back in the day and that killed my spirit for a few days. SMITH! SMITH! NO! SMITH!

I was so angry I didn't sleep that night. I remember it well because it was the same night as my Confirmation. My mom was cool with it, she let me skip school the next day because of all of the fair weather Bulls fans in my class. But then again in the 90's it seemed like 90% of the US population were Bulls 'fans'. I wonder where they went?

They became Lakers fans in the early 2000s. I think now that are waiting for next Dynasty team.

So for now, they ride on Kobe, LeBron, and D-Wade's fan train.

Can someone provide the details of the above game?

I've been recording/watching a lot of classic NBA lately, but am generally pretty underexposed to the great teams of my youth, either before I was born or into the NBA.

I believe it was Game 5 of the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals... Series was tied 2-2... and the Knicks were down by 1 at that point in time... All they needed was Smith to make one of those...

That game has been said to have ruined Smith's career, as he was never the same after it. Smith was a great 3rd option in the NBA for any team... he was tall (6'10") and he played Small Forward... easily a size mismatch for most teams.

The Knicks and Bulls were undoubtedly the 2 best teams in the NBA that year and had been fighting it out in the playoffs. I believe this was game 4 and NY had a 2-1 lead and was looking to go up 3-1. IIRC, NY got out to a quick lead and looked to be well on their way to a 3-1 lead. Chicago mounted a comeback and took the lead. NY had this last chance, and Smith who by all accounts was a good player up until that point just choked. I think NYK PG Derek Harper was suspended for this game because of a fight with Bulls reserve SG JoJo English, but I could be wrong, there were so many series and they blend together.

Correct about the Knicks (60-22) and Bulls (57-25) being the best teams. Derek Harper however was not on the team in 92-93. He was with them during the 93-94 season.

Also, this game was played at the Garden... meaning it was Game 5... Game 4 was played at Chicago Stadium.
