Stern to look into banning this stuff?

I remember in the finals one year some guy had on a back pad due to injury, but wades taking it to another level with the padding.

i gurantee the whole league in a year will all have this stuff.. I think it stops with kneed pads and elbow pads.

this isnt football guys. unfair advantage for the other guys i feel.

im just saying stern likes to control things. obviously it looks out of control wearing thigh pads and a bullet proof vest.

when are the days you just play ball?

unless this isnt a new trend, stern hates new trends and i just feel he'll try to control this.

seems to be getting out of hand

If they banned tights, I can't imagine they'd let this stuff go much further.

I can see having the thigh pads that supposedly keep them warm or something. It's a medical kinda thing but all the other stuff is a bit much if you ask me.

This stuff is readily available to all NBA players so it seems kinda dumb to say it's an unfair advantage.

But I would bet that Stern will put a stop to it none-the-less.

the full lower body kobe bryant tights?

              when did they do that?

ive also recently seen some under armor COOL And HOT "thermal" style underarmor apparel.. almost like built in icey hott material or something.

lol this sorta reminds me of seinfeld with george and the yankee uniforms.

some nice new technology out there advancing the game further. im sorta happy restrictions are in place though.

They announced at the end of last season that tights would be banned the following season. As far as I know, that's still the case. I think the leg sleeves are still OK though.

If he bans them, it'll only be until he can slap a NBA logo on a similar kind of product...

For the first time, I actually agree with Stern about this one. Too much padding makes it unfair for the defensive player attempting to guard a player. You already can't hand check, now guards who run free now are padding up, crazy.

The leg warmups should be allowed, because they help keep the legs warm, and don't give anyone an unfair advantage.

                      Too much padding?

Didnt Pat Ewing have big knee pads and Hakeem have big elbow pads, whats the difference?

I know the difference, Ewing always came thru the lane knees 1st. And Hakeem used give out some vicious elbows early in his career.

Re: Stern to look into banning this stuff?

Let's clear this up right now. Shaq has worn these pads on his thighs for years now. The pads act as a shock absorber, basically making it so the actual thigh, rib, etc. does not absorb all of the energy produced from banging in basketball, like posting up, or slicing through traffic. Over the course of an 82-game season, even the best athletes break down from the bruising that often occurs in the NBA from the physical yet fast play.

The reason the NBA is cool with this is because without it, players would be loading up on anti-inflammatories, like Shaq was about 4 years ago. Stern would rather have guys wear these pads than become zombie pill abusers just hoping to make it through a game without enduring so much pain that they fall over. I agree there need to be limits set, but I don't have much of a problem with guys wearing them over their ribs or thighs.

What is really getting out of hand is stern banning things because people like them. How in the world does a pad give you an advantage over anyone? It makes sense for Wade to endorse it since he's always going to the floor. People don't like getting hurt and there's nothing wrong with that.

How does a pad dissuade a player from playing defense?

Well, I don't know about you... but I"m more willing to bang into someone to draw a foul if I know it won't hurt as much or take it to the hole and having a chance of getting knocked down if I know it won't hurt as much...

I agree I don't want anyone getting hurt, but that is like wearing the body armor in baseball...
