wow I thought the league was beginning to fall apart the past few years, now I'm convinced.
Only the competition might save this league IMO. -

There are a lot of "controversial" rules that have come out this year. It's 3 or 4 games into the season.
If your going to have new rules, you need to apply them early to set the tone for the rest of the season.
It's too early to for me to hang Stern before we see how the league turns out.Comment

Re: Stern Fines (Suns owner)Sarver 25K for complaining about refs
Then came the news that Stern, after collecting well over $1 million in Cuban fines over the past six years, had the support of numerous teams to enact a policy that would enable him to suspend owners -- like players and coaches -- for confronting referees and publicly criticizing any aspect of the league's structure.
After finding out about that, I wholeheartedly think that Stern is overdoing things.Comment

Hm I know the NHL has had problems with owners complaining about refs (same goes for GMs and coaches) and they get fined all the time. I haven't heard anyone saying Bettman is a tyrant.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

He's trying to really flex his muscle this year early on as to eliminate all problems with owners and players alike as soon as possible.
Regardless, Stern is the best commish in any sport.Raiders

Um....isn't the NHL doing rough with fans? Not a good comparison.......

I meant finances. It's all related. When the fans see the sport as too excessive, they may not take it as seriously and find another sport that's a little more sensible. I'm watching the Bulls game so I'm a little distracted.Comment

The blow of axing a whole season was rough but interestingly enough the NHL's revenues went up last season and are projected to stay the same/go slightly higher.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
