'SPONTANEOUS' NATE'S DUNK TURNS INTO DISASTER

'SPONTANEOUS' NATE'S DUNK TURNS INTO DISASTER
    By MARC BERMAN
November 30, 2006 -- CLEVELAND - Nate Robinson made about four bonehead plays last night, none more ridiculous than his attempt at a circus dunk when he was ahead of the field.

In the second quarter, Robinson stole the ball from Damon Jones. He had a clear path for a layup. Instead he took two steps bounced the ball off the floor so he can reach up and dunk it. It never got that far as he was whistled for traveling.

Thomas seethed but didn't yank him.

"I don't think we'll see that again," Thomas said. "I think he understands how I feel about that."

It was that kind of theatre that caused Larry Brown to want to demote Robinson to the minor leagues last season.

"I won't try it again unless we're up 20 points," Robinson said. "That's spontaneous Nate. Spur of the moment."

And Robinson wasn't done. He committed a foolish goaltending after LeBron James hoisted a runner while he was getting fouled. The ball hit the bottom portion of the glass. Inexplicably, Robinson leaped and slapped the ball off the glass again for an automatic goaltending.

"I thought the play was over," Robinson said. Thomas then yanked him.

Robinson also had two other miscues, committing a foul by setting an ill-advised pick at halfcourt. Then Robinson was chewed out by Thomas for giving up the ball late in the shot clock to shooting-challenged Renaldo Balkman, and a 24-second violation occurred.

It was a nightmare night for Nate. "All that matters is we won," Robinson said.

"We'll make sure we get him better at those things without taking his game away," Thomas said. "We need his game, his enthusiasm and the energy he brings to the floor."

Reminds me of another low bball IQ streetballer

Looks like Nate listens to the wrong teammates alot

Jeez we finally win, and there is still negative publicity about us. I know Nate made some dumb decisions last night but come on. That was a big win for the Knicks against a playoff team on the road. Nate just needs to shut his mouth and play the game the right way. These kinds of things are exactly the reason why Brown didn't like him.

It's a NY Post story so go figure.

IMO though, Nate needs to stop listening to guys like Marbury and Francis before his career ends up like theirs

Why do you assume Nate listens to Marbury and Francis?

Marbury is sullen and really doesn't deal with his teammates, especially this year. And Steve Francis has been an unsung hero so far this year. Steve was the only player to reprimand Nate after the travelling call while other players laughed (Jerome James).

Francis has been good - and I absolutely despise the guy.

Nate was taking advice from Marbs last year when Brown was there. can't remember the article but it was posted here.

This dunk reeks of Francis in game. Its his own doing, thats why I posted the clips...lol

The only other idiot who attempted an off the backboard dunk in Cleveland and missed was Drew Gooden.

See this is why we shouldn't celebrate "highlights" (like the block shot on Yao). Look at this guy, yeah the Knicks won, but if they didn't, people would have blamed Nate for his ignorance. I can't believe he didn't even know that you can't pass the ball to yourself, without it being called a travel. Thats one hell of a player.

Incredibly stupid play, funny if your not a Knicks fan.

But why did you complain when somebody posted a good highlight that he made in a loss, and now you post a bad play he made in a win?

Just out of curiosity, how come you can throw it off the backboard and then dunk. Is that not the same thing, passing it to yourself?

I posted an article, not a highlight of him, and I am definitely not glorifying what he did, (as it was in the block thread). Neither is the article and the two have no relation.

That has to rank up there with one of the dumbest plays I have ever seen. I still think Ricky Davis shooting and missing at his own hoop to get a triple double tops it but this was beyond stupid. I used to like Nate Robinson when he played in college but he has really turned into a showoff player with no basketball IQ. Then again the thats the typical Knicks player go figure.

Both are legal, nate just took 3 steps before the initial bounce. The gif of francis doing it is how it should be done.

This garbage is travelling all day long.

Nate is turning into another Marbury/Francis already and it seems Knick fans are loving the training process. Way to go Zeke
