Re: T-Mac Is Not Done....
@ Streets...
Offensive "energy" and responsibility doesn't just mean shot attempts. Role in the offense means who cuts and when, who sets what screens, who crashes the offensive glass and who gets back in transition, ETC. Either way, numbers don't lie, and obviously numbers point to Mac being a major factor in the Rox D. No way around that. If your opinion is that Kobe is an overrated defender who’s what..7 coach-selected All-D honors are a sham while T-Mac is a really good defender who the coaches all just slept on. Cool. We will have to agree to disagree. Your opinion is what it is as is mine...and my opinion is that T-Mac is and has always been a weak-to-average defender who has the tools and not the heart. That’s just my cute theory, and I’m sticking with it.
If T-Mac gets a nod for stepping up his D, I'll be the first to congratulate him. My opinions on the kid have been jaded by silly feminine crap like how much I like "the other guy" or feeling a need to "balance" e-hype...but that’s the past. I hope Mac has made steps to become the player we want him to be..The more dominant players the better, IMO.
@Dre...
I know Mac did a real fine job on Dirk in that series...but I wouldn't really call 21ppg "completely shut down". Dirk was 5 points off his season average, and still led the team in scoring 4 out of those 7 games, and more importantly they won the series. Mac gave him the business, but lets not go overboard. To me McGrady on Dirk is like the barbershop scene in Coming to America. "Why is it that every time you talk defense, somebody got pull the 05 playoffs out they a$$!"
I G.U.A.R.A.N.T.E.E. Dirk would demolish Mac now. Guarantee it. Dirk was soft, and spent too much time on the perimeter, and I since then Avery has pounded into the kids head that he's got to play inside out. Mac could hang with him floating around the perimeter and that’s a favorable match up for him...but Dirk would merk that dude in the post now.
Good convo...Comment

Re: T-Mac Is Not Done....
21ppg came from Ryan Bowen guarding Dirk when Tmac had to switch over to Stackhouse because he was abusing the midget David Wesley.
You would know about that since he plays with bron now.
Imagine him guarding players 6'7 and taller every night.
Dirk wouldn't do anything to Tmac now seeing that Udonis Haslem as recent as last season put a root on him as well.
I can't believe you guys wont even give the dude credit for what he's doing. It's remarkable in the least.
Go back and check the tape.Last edited by 23; 01-10-2007, 03:54 AM.Comment

Re: T-Mac Is Not Done....
Dirk was average in that series. McGrady was playing some excellent all nba D this season before he got hurt. Now that he has had to score more his D has obviously slipped. But there is no doubt in my mind he could still d up Dirk.
Looking back at Dirk stats 2 yrs ago
FGM-A FTM-A PTS
1. 5-19 11-13 21
2. 8-21 10-12 26
3. 9-16 10-10 28
4. 4-14 9-9 18
5. 9-22 4-6 23
6. 5-22 7-9 19
7. 5-14 4-6 14
My bad he wasn't mediocre he was awful. He may have avg 21 ppg in that series, but it wasn't because he shot well from the field. Gift free throws helped him out. Oh btw it was Jason Terry who won that series for them.Comment

Re: T-Mac Is Not Done....
I want T-Mac in attack mode all the time too, but only when his shot is falling. When it isn't I want to see him passing the ball more. The last three games, his shot has been off, but he has been compensating by setting others up and making the players around him better (the reason that I think we are generally better w/o Yao than w/o T-Mac). 12, 11, and 9 assists respectively in the last 3 games for McGrady.Comment

Of course, it was my team that got victimized last night but hey, the Kings have had 3-4 straight of these OT games and lose.Comment

Re: T-Mac Is Not Done....
It's really amazing that players who shoot alot of criticized but T-Mac is criticized for not shooting enough and passing too much. It's ridiculous.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: T-Mac Is Not Done....
That's because sometimes, he becomes too timid or defers too much when he should be trying to get his game going. I'd think if T-Mac shoots a lot to the point that nobody else on his team scores double-figures and loses, people would call him out on it.Comment
