Air...I'm with you on those points. Expansion and so on. Those are factors.
As for AI...both him and Kobe are fake in their own ways. Kobe in trying to be like Jordan and Iverson for embracing hip hop, which is as fake as can be. Last time I checked, everyone in the 'hood isn't splashing chains worth 10 grand around their necks or riding around in the latest Bentley.
There was nothing wrong with Stern trying to bring hip hop into the NBA. The problem is that the hip hop generation brought along some players that were very resentful to those outside of their "inner circle" (alot of times on purpose) and chalked it up to the hip hop culture.
Meanwhile, it put a bad light on players of the hip hop generation like KG, Rip Hamilton and so on that could balance the culture they follow and also be media-savvy.
KG broke into the league as a teenager, playing with a smile on his face and trully enthused to be where he was, which was in the NBA. Then you have these other players that come in with a chip on their shoulder, when in actuality the world and the moon has been handed to them since grade school.
