    Re: Trade Rumor

Do people read the links in these threads? The trade had to happen ASAP - the only thing allowing this to go through is a injury exception the Bucks had for Simmons lost season, which expires tomorrow.

Boykins was expendable - with AI, Smith & Melo he wasn't going to get his shots. If he's not scoring he's a liability on the floor. Blake is a dependable, hard-working backup PG. He can distribute the ball, hit an occasional shot and draw a charge or get a loose ball.

Boykins also has an opt-out option at the end of the season, and Denver would not be able to keep him if he chose free agency. They save the cap space, get a bench guy who's actually a PG as opposed to the littlest SG in the NBA.

The Bucks get a scorer, which with their decimated lineup is essential. If he stays or leaves at the end of the year is probably irrelevant, as I don't see him as a long-term option for them. But he might be able to keep them afloat for a lower seed playoff spot as they wait for Villenueva and Redd to heal.

I don't see Hodge sticking around, but you never know - they don't have any defensive stalwarts on the Bucks so if he can latch on in that role he might have found a home. He didn't seem have any place in Denver's plans whether he reached a full recovery or not.

It's not only Redd and Villenueva that are out, but Simmons is gone for the year and Mo Williams is out for 2 to 3 weeks. Villenueva may not be back this year. Redd and Williams out is about 40-45 pts per game.

I'm sure when Mo comes back, Boykins will go back to the bench. Each team needed to do what they needed to do.

Talent-wise, the Bucks have an edge. Blakes stats were lousy this year, hopefully, he will find his groove in Denver. Finacially, Denver needed to do something.

I think this MIGHT have made some sense for the Nuggets (in terms of getting cap relief) in a few weeks once they get Carmelo back and dont need Boykins scoring, but until then, they should have kept Boykins and had his scoring. They need it. I think the Bucks would still make this trade in a week or two.
"The Nuggets, sources say, had hoped to keep Boykins for a few more games while Anthony completes his 15-game ban. But they had to make the trade immediately because Milwaukee's $4.3 million injury exception created by Bobby Simmons' season-ending ankle and foot surgeries -- its only mechanism for taking back Boykins' contract in this exchange -- expires Friday."

On the surface it looks like daylight robbery by the Bucks but while Boykins can score but he's the biggest liability in the nba on the defensive end. Playing in the West you just CANNOT allow AI and Boykins to be on the court at the same time because they are so overmatched on the defensive end. I like this trade for both teams because Blake will be more than happy to simply pass the ball to Melo, AI and JR, play some D and hopefully hit some of the open 3's that will come his way. Earl will give the Bucks some scoring while Redd, Mo, Simmons and Charlie V are out and then give them some bench scoring when they return. Hodge is pretty crap and will probably be cut but he can actually play some D so he might stick.

Like mentioned earlier they wouldn't have been able to re-sign Earl if he tested the FA waters anyway with the massive contracts AI, K Mart, Melo, Camby and Co are all getting so they may as well get something in return.

              That makes sense.

Giving up one small player for the smallest in the league? No thanks.

Turns out that Steve Blake has been playing reaally good ball with the Nuggets.

Ya, he put up 25 on one of his former teams, Portland, the other day.

I was actually really surprised that he hadn't got scooped up by a team that could use a great backup point guard. He was really solid on a poor Blazers squad last year.

Also, this move allows AI to play some at the two. Deal looks a lot better than originally thought.

Also, doesn't Earl have the option to opt out of his contract at the end of the year? Which he would/will likely do. This deal is looking better for Denver more and more.
