WHY WAS ALLAN RAY NOT DRAFTED??
Whenever he gets sometime he puts up numbers. How was Foye so regarded so highly and he was not? They both are pretty equal to me. I watched nearly all of the villanova games and he was as vital to there winning as Foye was. Foye is more of a driver as Ray is a shooter. But glad to see Ray is putting up numbers in limited time. He is gonna get an overpaid contract next year if he can keep performing.Originally posted by SullyAs for this thread, it's ridiculous. If anyone knows the posting history of our buddy Raymond, then they'd know not to take this thread seriously. He loves to make outrageous statements, without much substance, then sit back and watch everyone flame each other.Tags: None -

I'm thinking maybe it's that he's undersized for a 2-guard and doesn't have the ball handling to play point, but I agree, it's hard to let an athletic shooter like him go. I thought he would be early-mid 2nd round easily. Glad to see he's getting a shot with Boston though, he was one of my favorite non-Duke players. -

Allan Ray is listed at 6'2" and that may be a stretch. That's a very, very hard thing to overcome. At that height, you can't shoot over people, so you have to be blindingly quick to get your own shots. Ray can shoot, that's for sure, but that height is a very big concern today... there's just too many guys that fit that mold right now at the next level. Foye, on the other hand, he's bigger, and can easily be slotted in at the 1 or the 2.
Do I agree with that reasoning? No. But teams go on the odds... and odds are if you're a small SG, it's going to be a tough run. Shawn Respert type players have difficult goes in the NBA, though I suspect Ray is a little quicker perhaps..."Well the NBA is in great hands but if I had to pick the single greatest player on the planet, I take Kobe Bryant without hesitation." - Michael Jordan, 2006Comment

Yeah, part of the reason is the height of the players, but that's actually an issue for both of them. The more important factor that put Foye over Ray in most people's eyes was the pre-draft perception that Foye was more explosive and has a stronger body, which would allow him to absorb contact and finish better on his drives to the basket. And coming into the draft Ray wasn't looked at as a player would be a good slasher in the pros. The jury is still out on Ray being a good slasher since it's early in his career and he can always improve on this, but this was what mainly determined their relative draft position.

I'm guessing height/size were factors, because at his size, you have to be lightning quick to create your own shot and slash to the basket.I write things on the Internet.

Did you watch the past tournament? Allan Ray was nowhere to be found and Randy Foye put 'Nova on his back with help from Kyle Lowry. Foye can pretty much score on anybody. Allan Ray can't slash to the hole like Foye, nor is he as athletic as Foye. They are nowhere near being on equal terms.Comment
