I agree that Layden was trash as well but he did get them into the playoffs with consistency something that Issiah has not been able to do. Layden also did this when the east was stronger than it is now.

There's your problem. You're giving Layden credit for the hay days of the trio: Spree, H20, and Ewing. It wasn't because of Layden that we made the playoffs. Never was.

I'm not giving credit for Layden for anything, but I'm also not giving Issiah any credit. Because he hasn't done anything to deserve it.

Layden was horrible, and he was never responsible for getting the team to the playoffs.

Ernie Grunfield was responsible for building the 1999 Knicks team that made the finals as an 8th seed. He was fired in the middle of that season, and Layden took over. Next year the Knicks lost in the conference finals, year after that they lost in the first round, and they missed the playoffs the 2 years after that. And they were going to miss the playoffs in 03-04, except Layden was fired in the middle of the year, and Isiah took over and traded for Marbury.

I'm no Isiah fan, but at least he's done some good things. He has drafted really well, and he brought in an all star caliber big man in Curry. I'm looking through the list of moves Layden made during his time here......and honestly I don't think he made one move to make the team better in his time here.

I'm not questioning IT draft picks he has so far made some great moves through the draft. What I am questioning is some of the awful moves the man has made in free agency and trades. Particully the Francis deal and James signing those were just horrible and for me unforgivable moves.

I'll give Isaiah some dap. He has given the Bulls a chance to become a dynasty if this draft pick they get this year is high enough.

I completely agree, I am not happy with Isiah, I'm just saying it's not fair to say Layden got us to the playoffs and Isiah hasn't since Layden took over the Eastern Conference Champions and they got worse pretty much every year he was here, while Isiah took over a team with pretty much no talent, and a ton of bad contracts.

Bashing Isiah is the "In" thing to do for arm chair sports fans.

Isiah is NOT a top 5 coach, however that man WANTS to win. He has made an improvement to the team. And most of his players enjoy him as their coach. The Knicks could have very well been in the playoffs if not for all of the injuries. And then what do all you smack talkers say? Would he not be in contention for a coach of the year spot? Taking that sorry excuse of a team and taking them to the playoffs would have been a MAJOR coaching accomplishment.

But that being said, he did not take them to the playoffs. And top 5 coaches award does not go to Isiah. But to rake on the guy... jeezum biscuits, lay off.
If he can draft a few more hard working players, like David Lee the Knicks will be a playoff team.

Ok so you are still bashing Ishiah the GM, you are stating he has done a good job coaching this sorry excuse of a team. It is the team he put together he is the GM. And I love you say HE WANTS TO WIN! No kidding who doesnt want to win? He just does not know how to go about doing it.
And the reason bashing Ishiah is the thing to do is because everything he has touched since he retired has turned to crap. See the CBA, the Raptors and the Knicks.

I was under the impression that we were discussing Isiah career with the Knicks, and not the past? Perhaps the man should be judged in his current roll, and not what he did years back. Just like LB could only be judged for his sorry excuse of a coaching job he did in New York. Do you give a rats biscuit what he did in the past with his success? No you wanted wins with the knicks. Judge Isiah when his career with the Knicks is over.

Re: Give Isaiah Thomas some credit: Please

I'm going to give Thomas credit for two things:

                        1) Being a good evaluator of talent in the draft. He seems to have a good knack for finding guys in the draft that not everyone has their eyes on.

                        2) Being a pretty good coach. He's done a lot better behind the bench then his predecessors and I really think he should stick to coaching.

The thing is as a GM assessing, signing and trading for NBA talent he sucks hardcore. He's the classic scout type, someone who can find young talent but can't handle the administrative side of the GM position. He should just resign as GM and give the job to Glen Grunwald fulltime but stay on as head evaluator for the draft.

Agreed. Isiah is a good coach, and should remain the Knicks coach. Very few guys can do both jobs well. Laimbeer is able to do both very well in WNBA, it will be interesting to see if he could (if and when he is given the the chance) handle the NBA job.
