The problem with that is a baseball team, moreso than a team in any other sport, can be hurt by an extended layoff. A bye in baseball (as well in basketball, but to a lesser extent) is more likely to be detrimental than beneficial.

All IMHO, but I can't see any major league hitter looking forward to taking a week and half off from live pitching.

This same thing happened to the bulls in the 04-05 season, though that year it only meant us not playing the pacers, so i didnt mind as much.

I really don't understand why they have divisions in the NBA anymore. You don't play any more games against your division rivals than you do against most other teams in your conference. Seems like the only reason divisions still exist is to arbitrarily create artificial rivalries.

Yes, but that 162 game season eliminates 73.3% of the teams (22 out of 30).

The NBA's 82 game season only eliminates 46.7% of the teams. (14 out of 30)

          That is the big difference.

It doesn't take that many games to do that. I think the seedings were just fine how they were and the 5 game first round series should've never been changed.

You never heard a complaint until they changed it.

I can't see how you guys complain about basketball but praise baseball. it does seem like overkill. I'm with Dre on that one. I hate that they made the first round the same as every other round. Pisses me off that they changed almost everything that was good. I am glad that it's longer though. Just wish it was a little more old skool where they did the 2-2-1-1-1 format. Maybe the successor to Stern might change it back. I wonder how long he has in office. I thought he was suppose to be leaving within the next couple of years?

I honestly think Stern is gonna die as commissioner.

I'd rather them reduce it to the first and second place team of each division which would be six teams per conference. And then seed the teams according the format the NFL has with the top 2 teams in each conference getting a first round bye. Thus making winning games in your division more important than others.

Then you would have a playoffs where Chicago or Clevland does not get in at all, and either NY or NJ (2 teams that do not deserve to be there) guaranteed a spot

Just abandon the divisons and take the top 8 teams from each conf.

I say, abandon divisions and the conferences. One table of 30 teams. Play each team 3 times and the team at the top of the table after those games is the champion.

Well this thread is about the playoff seeding, not the amount of games in a season, so people are praising baseball's playoffs.

But I don't see many people who don't like the amount of games in baseball. The season's almost the same length as the NBA, they just play every day pretty much.
