Re: With this day being the last day of the season
How about each team in the playoffs gets one ball, and each team out of the playoffs gets three balls? This way, everyone gets a shot, non-playoff teams get abetter shot, but no non-playoff team has a better shot @ number one over any other. It would curb tanking, yet give the crap teams a shot at #1Comment

No I can't blame the organizations but I can blame the system that rewards teams that tank. The lottery system is better than what the NFL has, but it's still very far from perfect and it needs to be adjusted.Comment

But having different probabilities leads to tanking, which is what we'd be trying to avoid.Comment

The current system is fine with me.I write things on the Internet.

And even with that, teams still tanked. I don't think it's a good thing for the league when teams are tanking knowing that it guarantees them of nothing.Comment

I understand, but your basically defeating the purpose of the draft if you want to change the criteria. I don't want the Pacers or Clippers, already playoff-caliber teams, adding Durant or Oden.I write things on the Internet.

We're just gonna have to disagree on this. I understand what your saying I just don't agree with it.Comment

Re: With this day being the last day of the season
I would definitely prefer it to the current setup, but I still like the "every non playoff team has an equal chance while the playoff teams have zero chance" and the "non playoff team with the best record has the best shot at winning the lottery," setups better.Comment

Re: With this day being the last day of the season
I get the fact that tanking seems to lack integrity, but I'd be willing to bet that you'd have a tough time finding non-Beantowners who would watch the Celtics right now even if they were playing their hearts out. A bad/hurt team is a bad/hurt team reguardless of effort level. I wouldn't completely skew the system of giving a bad teams' fanbase hope for the next season, just to see two garbage teams that no one cares about play a little harder in meaningless games. Not too mention that they would STILL be tanking...do you think PP or any other important player would still be playing? Ask a GS fan...its hard enough to get better with the current sytem. I dunno... maybe I just don't understand what you guys want to see from these bad squads that would be worth unbalancing the league worse than it already is (East v. West), and creating an even bigger gap between the haves and have nots.
Personally, given the choice of watching the Knicks and C's play their starters 20 games out of contention, or seeing those two storied franchises get back on top, I'd choose the latter.Last edited by HMcCoy; 04-19-2007, 04:04 AM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: With this day being the last day of the season
The same thing that got those teams in bad situations will be the thing that gets them out. MANAGEMENT. Better decisions = better teams ala Toronto.
Tanking is just one of those things indicative of how far the league fallen.Comment

Re: With this day being the last day of the season
Good players do that.
Management doen't mean crap without top picks or valuable trade assets. You guys want to strip both of those commodities from bad teams...and again...for what exactly? Bad games that are hard fought?
And Dre, had the league 'fallen' when the spurs tanked to get TD? I imagine coaches have been tapping the brakes to get better positioning since the lottery system was introduced...some are just better at hiding it. That isn't exclusive to this season alone...Last edited by HMcCoy; 04-19-2007, 01:18 AM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: With this day being the last day of the season
I agree. I like what someone said in another thread about the closer you get to making the playoffs, the more lottery balls you get as a consolation. So this year, yes, the Clippers would get an Oden or Durant to play alongside Brand, but I guarentee you that they will be out of the running next year and another team that has made good MANAGEMENT decisions (not just tanking all season... there is no honor in that. HATED when Orlando did it), will get rewarded for being on the cusp, and hopefully, they will be catapulted into the playoffs, and taken out of the running for next year, and so on and so forth.Comment
