You guys want to strip both of those commodities from bad teams...and again...for what exactly? Bad games that are hard fought?

And Dre, had the league 'fallen' when the spurs tanked to get TD? I imagine coaches have been tapping the brakes to get better positioning since the lottery system was introduced...some are just better at hiding it. That isn't exclusive to this season alone...

    Managment means little? Explain Minnesota

Explain why the Lakers have become mediocre since Jerry West's departure

Again, tell me who ORL has managed to screw up each year

    The Knicks

The Suns were terrible until Coleangelo got sole control of the front office

The Hawks, as bad as they've been for soooo long... whats up with them?

    Beginning to get the picture?

Don't forget Golden State until this year.

I'll add to that, San Antonio was a bad team to use as an example because their GM has been able to find no name players from God knows where and remain an elite team the entire time.

RC Buford is regarded as one of the best GM's in the league.

The Clippers have also had their share of picks but screwed them all up. I remember they drafted both Melvin Ely and Chris Wilcox when they had just obtained Elton Brand.

"Management means crap without high picks and tradeable assets". Obviously smart decisions...good, dumb decisions...baaaad but IMO, Colangelo and co. can't do anything without getting their hands on premium talent.

          Explain Minnesota
Don't know what you mean there, Dre...are you asking why do they still stink? Until the last 2 seasons, they were a yearly playoff team, and like the Cavs of the late 90's they were too good for the lottery, but not good enough to make any real noise. They don't really factor in to this convo considering that they have a unique cap situation and lost draft picks due to the Joe Smith fiasco, IMO, unless you meant something elese. Clarify for me....

          S. H. A. Q. (Why he left and who's fault that is is for the other thread)

Kupcakes plan has been a head-scratcher, but considering that the Jerry West-managed Lakers (B.S....before Shaq)were just as mediocre as they are now (low-seed playoff team), and the West-managed Grizzlies haven't won a single post-season game in 5 years, (hence him quitting) I would say that the Lakers haven't lived and died with management, but more that LA fans are lucky Shaq wanted to make movies, and they had enough, you guessed it, high draft picks and tradeable assets

Again, tell me who ORL has managed to screw up each year
Again...Orlando is no different than every other team...they rolled the dice in FA, and had no way to know that A. T-Mac wouldn't be the 2-way player he is now, and B. that Hill would miss 7,041 games. Raise your hand if you thought signing Grant and Tracy were botched moves at the time? And though they have also made some bone-headed moves, they are again, back into contention because of a system that helps the rebuilding process, and gave them #1 pick . ORL is the perfect franchise to show how the system works...Changing the rules would mean that the Grant and Tracy misfires would doom this franchise. Let you guys have your way, the Magic and Bobcats would never get better. Ever. What hope would the Celtics have for next season? Or the one after that? management would mean nothing...What "smart" deal could they make? What GM would give them a franchise-changing player for any of the guys they have now?

          The Knicks
Got me there...that has been horrendous management.

The Suns were terrible until Coleangelo got sole control of the front office
Can't speak on that, bro...I don't remember the Suns any further than the Kidd days.

The Hawks, as bad as they've been for soooo long... whats up with them?
Coaching? I dunno, ATL is an enigma. You would think they have enough good pieces to be competitive, but then is that a management issue? Not sure...doesn't that team have some talent? Besides overpaying for JJ, what have they done that is bad management?

Bottom line, I think the system is OK, and the whole "tanking" phenomenon is overrated.

HATED when Orlando did it), will get rewarded for being on the cusp, and hopefully, they will be catapulted into the playoffs, and taken out of the running for next year, and so on and so forth.
Never thought of it that way. I still think that would create a bigger and bigger disparity between the playoff teams (plus the ones right outside of that), and the truly craptastic teams. And how do you measure basketball honor? Are the Mavs honorable for resting all their starters the other night? What about when LeBron cruises a bit...is LeBron a dishonorable player? Where's the line? Should Redd be playing through his injuries right now, ala Wade?

Re: With this day being the last day of the season

I think the it is good as it is now.

Otherwise some teams will ALWAYS be bottom-feeders no matter who they have managing them.

Because they will never have the pieces in place to get a winning team, and since they can't win, then they don't get a #1 pick.

Okay so what the Celts tanked...teams tank in every sport this isn't the first time. But even though they get the #1 pick, it isn't like they are guaranteed to become a good team.

The Hawks have had NUMEROUS top 5 picks and look where they are at now.

Rewarding the best non-playoff team with the #1 pick is the equivalent of taking away the Salary Cap...

Also giving non-playoff teams equal balls means some 8 seeds are going to lose games to miss the playoffs because they know they have no chance at the top seed and a better chance at landing a top 5 pick.

if I was the owner of a team who tanked just to get the #1 pick I'd be livid.

Why would you want to coach your team to lose? Is it that you don't care about your job as head coach? I'd fire that coach if he even brought that idea into my office.

Im pretty sure a team full of Small Forwards will never be able to do anything in the nba...

and id also like to say taking Marvin williams with a first round pick when you needed a PG , and Chris Paul was on the board was obviously an idiotic Management decision.

as I was saying. this season has been one of the worst in recent history.

Despite the few blips. this was a most uninteresting season with more than a little snorefest of games and a line of events that carried more questions than answers

At least this season brought excitement to the Toronto market. I've watched most of the Raptors games this year and they've been very entertaining to watch. I do have to agree tho, the rest of the league has been very pedestrian and boring.

Hopefully with the influx of talent that's coming in this year in the draft that could change a little.

I doubt this. Shaq saw the opportunity for boat loads of money and stardom (Hollywood) and took it. Not taking away anything from West, but I believe Logo had Shaq land in his lap.

Can I just say that I miss the 80's and 90's so much.

I think the best way to fix the lotter is to make it where the worst 6 teams have the best, yet equal shots at the lottery, the next 5 teams have a lesser chance and the the remaining 3 have the least, but it should be %'s close enough where even the last section of teams have a shot at getting into the top 5 and the bottom 5 have a shot at moving pretty far back.
