Could the Sonics do a Clyde Drexler?

I think it was interesting that the GP interview at ESPN (see below) mentioned that the T-Wolves are pushing hard for Payton.

My initial thought was BS as Minnesotta don't have much to offer and no picks etc to throw in.

Then I thought, maybe...just maybe...Seattle might be considering doing what Portland did in the mid 90's when they basically gave Clyde Drexler to Houston so that The Glyde could have a shot at a ring.

If GP leaves at years end, Seattle gets nothing anyway. If they got Terrel Brandons medical retirement cap room, maybe that would be attractive and it sure would send a message around the league that the Sonics look after their vets.

Imagine GP and KG together. I'd almost pick the Wolves to win it all.

Quote "A source close to Payton, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Minnesota Timberwolves are making the hardest push to acquire Payton before the Feb. 20 deadline."

        Sure do.

Clyde was my favourite player ever...I was so happy to see him get one.GP has been my favourite point guard and I have always thought it kind of sad that the prime of his career has been on a non contender (The Sonics haven't been a threat for 6 years...that's a long time)

I think Seattle would definitely ask for Calvin Booth's contract to go with any GP move as they are keen to get rid of that burden.

Garnett with another all star in the play off's.

        No excuses.

Man that would be something exciting.

They'd be good...but maybe not THAT good. I mean, it's not like it's a team full of all-stars...and they would still be weak at certain positions. Plus, who knows how long it would take for them to build confidence.

I still think they'd struggle against the Mav's, Kings, Lakers and Blazers. They would have just as much, if not more talent than a Payton/Garnett lead T-Wolves team.

The Wolves, I believe, have to find something more lasting and substantial to put along KG. Payton is great, but only a few years left, probably.

not going to happen. Monkey is right though, they would HAVE take at least Calvin Booth's contract. I could see a GP and Booth for Brandon(if he guaranteed retired) and a 1rst round pick(but they don't have one). If those were true I could see it maybe happening.

On a different subject, the Sonics should trade Kenny Anderson and what ever it takes to get Adur-Rahim away from the Hawks(looks like they are just trying to clear cap room) a team of GP, Mason/Barry, Rashard Lewis, Adur-Rahim/Vladimar Radmanvic, James, Drobnjak, Patepenko could compete for a championship. I'm 100% sure that they could beat the Mavericks and give the Kings a good run.

If you think you could get that much for GP your crazy.

really? I would do it then if I'm the sonics. Honestly I really really want Chris Duhon. He would go perfect with Mason, Barry, Lewis, Radmanvic. Not to mention we would have enough cap room to go after a Jermaine, Kidd, Brand, type of player.
