Would the Warriors over Mavs be a bigger upset than Nuggets over Sonics in 1994?

Maybe this belongs in the Playoff thread, but I was more curious about what the poll results would look like.

So if Golden State knocks off Dallas this year would it be a bigger upset than when the Denver Nuggets knocked off the Seattle Super Sonics in 1994?

Looking at it in perspective, I need to say yes. That Seattle team was loaded, whereas Denver really wasn't that good. Sure it may have helped it was the best 3 out of 5 vs. 4 out of 7 now.

For what its worth, their records were identical at 42-40, whereas Dallas when 67-15 vs. 63-19 for Seattle.

So which upset would be bigger?

*I know the #8 Knicks beat the #1 Heat as well, but the lockout skewed the standings that year.

it would certainly be up there with the biggest upsets ever, probably in any major sport...at least on paper. but the matchups in player personnel and coaching staff make it not as big of an upset as it is on paper.

btw, the Knicks upset of the Heat was "teacher v. student" also.

I think it's easily Denver-Seattle. Just about everyone with a brain knew the Dallas-GSW series was going to be tough.

To make Denver's claims stronger, Seattle jumped up 2-0 in the series, blowing the Nuggets out each game. Denver then won 3 in a row.

Denver is the bigger upset although it was only in a 5 game series which is much easier to do.

That it was, but the playoffs began when teams would begin their midseason pushes, something New York was known for doing back then.

That being said, Allan Houston's game winner was classic.

That was the second to last time I remember being happy as a Knicks fan. Larry Johnson's 4 point play being the last.

The Mavs had some bad luck getting matched up with this bunch no matter what round. The Mavs would probably have a better chance against any other team in the NBA imo (yes including the Spurs and Suns).

No, the warriors are not an 8th seed team. And if they had a healthy Baron during the season, they would have been the 4th or 5th or higher seed.

That is the other thing, this Golden State team is pretty good top to bottom. Denver wasn't that good, who did they have? Dikembe Mutombo, okay great defender, not much else. Their leading score was Chris Jackson, or whatever he called himself at that point, with LaPhonso Ellis as their #2 scorer.

they certainly are not a true 8th seed talent wise. They didnt have their roster intact and in sync until the end of the year, and that hurt their record. They got into a rythym at the perfect time, that is for sure.

that Lakers win over the Kings the last game of the season might have cost the Mavs a shot at the west. If the Kings would have won that game, the Mavs would have played the Lakers and the Warriors would have played the Suns. and If the Warriors would have faced the Suns they probably would have given them trouble also (although probably not as much trouble as they are giving Dallas). Golden State blew the Suns out in their last game of the year when the Warriors had their entire roster, and Nellie knows Nash like he knows Dirk.

regardless, the #1 seed should be able to beat whatever team they are matched up against. but the way this Mavs team has shown up in the playoffs (or hasnt shown up i should say), they probably wouldnt have been able to make it out of the west anyway.

OK here it is! This the reason the Warriors are tough now! They are finally finishing off games. The last 2 years they couldn't do that. They lost so many games in the 4th quarter over the last couple years. Now they are finally finishing of games that is what has made them tough. If they could have done that last year they would have been in the playoffs. Now they finally have the team that can, so yes they can give anyone trouble, even the Suns, now the Spurs that is different. We can't stop Ducan!
