Re: Bryan Colangelo - Executive of the Year

I had a long drawn out response, but realized that I'm thinking of his dad Jerry. My bad.

The same principles apply, but it was his father that has been the driving force.

-"The former Chairman of the NBA’s Board of Governor, (Jerry)Colangelo has had influence on the growth of the NBA as a member of the league’s Finance Committee, Long Range Planning Committee, Expansion Committee and Competition and Rules Committee. Commissioner David Stern turned to Colangelo to chair a special group in the 2000-01 season that evaluated the state of the game and made rules modifications."

-"At its recent meeting over All-Star Weekend, the consensus of the NBA's Competition Committee was that our game has become too focused on 'isolation play,' and that some changes in our rules may be appropriate to discourage isolation offenses," said Stern. "With his wide-ranging basketball background, Jerry is the perfect owner representative to chair a select group to develop recommendations in this area"
Stu on the state of the league.

Do you think that’s been the result of rule changes or do you think that’s been the result of teams like Phoenix having success with the up-and-down play?

SJ: The evolution of the rule changes over the past several years is beginning to settle in. In my opinion, the changes have also begun to affect teams’ player personnel decisions and additionally, more teams are making decisions to change their style of play and lastly, making coaching decisions based upon these factors. Specifically starting back when Sacramento began playing an up-tempo style and continuing with the Washington Wizards, the Phoenix Suns, the Dallas Mavericks, as well as other teams.

It's still a conflict, IMO, that the driving force behind the shift in the way basketball is played...has a son as an NBA GM. Does anyone believe that Jr didn't have any knowledge of his dad's vision, or that they never discussed it?
