But Horry only ever turns it on in the playoffs. Put Horry on a non-playoff team next season and see how he does. He would be nothing special. The guy just rides his team for 82 games in the regular season, and even in the playoffs, I wouldn't call him a factor.

Re: Horry has more rings than Jordan
That was my problem with the post.
What Horry did to get his 7 is in no ways comparable to MJ's 6. MJ led his team to all 6 and dominated the entire NBA. Horry was a great roleplayer on great teams, and was definitely a factor no doubt... but the fact that he has more rings than Michael means nothing in terms of comparisons.Comment

Fun fact about Horry, he's made the playoffs in every season of his career.Twitter

Re: Horry has more rings than Jordan
He's not going to do anything unless there are a few other impact players playing in front of him. Like in LA with Shaq and Kobe. Like in San Antonio with Duncan, Parker and Ginobili. Horry makes a few good plays once in a while in the playoffs, that's it. He has no ability to step up if the impact players don't do their jobs.Last edited by CoRruPt-; 06-14-2007, 11:38 PM.Comment

Re: Horry has more rings than Jordan
Robert Horry is a very good role player who has his moments of greatness in the playoffs when it matters but the fact that he has more rings then Jordan doesn't mean jack all. The man hasn't been one of the leaders of his team and he hasn't had the pressure of being THE man every team goes after.
He's just been very smart about what teams he plays for and for having some great moments at times in the playoffs. If he were on a run of a mill team no one would talk about him. Wait, let me correct that, he'd be talked about as one of the more underrated role players in the NBA but that's it.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Rodman was an All-Star, a 2-time DPOY, and the unquestioned best rebounder of his generation. Rodman was a starter and a bigtime FA aquisition in SA and CHI.
Rodman was not just a roleplayer.Last edited by HMcCoy; 06-14-2007, 11:53 PM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Horry has more rings than Jordan
But, can anyone really be that lucky, has anyone from this sport or any sport lucked into 7 rings? I'm sure he had to have contribute to one or two title winsComment

Re: Horry has more rings than Jordan
How many rings would his teams have without his crucial game winning shots those seasons? He would have at least half the amount of titles because his teams would have been knocked out of the playoffs or lost crucial games the could have changed the series. He has been cold blooded in enough playoff games to be worthy of some praise.
As for the regular season...whatever. Ask the Dallas Mavericks and the other 29 NBA teams how much the regular season matters. I could care less if he coasts during the regular season. Regular season doesn't matter.Free LSUFan2004 and GoDevilsASU!

Re: Horry has more rings than Jordan
Yes...NOW...AT AGE ALMOST 37 he saves himself for the playoffs.
Hello...that's what 36-7 year old vets are meant to do.
But as a rookie and during his first years with Houston, he was a good contributor. He was around 14 / 7 and 3 and he played excellent defense.
His blind side shot blocking was superb.
He's always shot a solid three ball...and always played smart D.
There's a reason his teams win. Look at the second game v. Cleveland...Duncan was flat, but there was Horry with 5 blocks.
None in the other games...but he produced 5 in one short spell.
The guy lifts and gives you quality...things that make a difference.
No, he wasn't MJ...but neither has been anyone else on the PLANET.
He's been a great, great roleplayer. Why do people feel the need to demean roleplayers? They are a key part of what make basketball teams win...Comment
