Re: Horry has more rings than Jordan

Back to the original question of this thread, its gotta count for something right? Horry's no HOF'er and has never been a superstar but having 7 rings does mean something, if only that the guy has been a consistent player for a long time who has fit in on different teams with varying styles of play. I'm sure the guys he's played with don't consider him a role player who rode coat tails to his rings. Outside of PHX fans no one really has any reason to hate on the guy, not just for this year but for his past history and the fact that he happened to play on rival teams.

Robert Horry is a classic case of being at the right place at the right time.

I'm just trying to figure out what the point of the title was. He can't hae been actually trying to compare Robert Horry to Michael Jordan, could he?

To be fair to Robert Horry, dating back to his time with the Rockets he has hit an uncanny number of big shots for being a role player. Sure he isn't a future HOFer or anything, but no one can deny how clutch he has been throughout his entire career.

This guy/kid is a good poster. You know he wasn't actually comparing Horry to Jordan, but the thing that the title dictates is that Robert Horry isn't just your simple role player like MassNole said... with 7 rings, he is one of the BEST ROLE players ever.

I think we can agree on that.

I can agree with that, I cannot think of a better role player than Horry.

Not necessarily to that extent, but I would bet you'd see a couple of different champions if not for his presence over the years.

yes... so many games decided by that one shot of his in plenty of games... Detroit could have repeated as champion winning both game 5 and 6 instead of just 6 in 2005. Kings could have went to the finals instead of the Lakers, deleting a dynasty.

Rodman is the best role player. Honestly, nobody is even close.

As for Horry directly affecting championships, I don't really know how true that is.

People seem to forget that those teams still had pretty decent players, and that most of Horry's shots were standing still wide open while Hakeem, Shaq, Kobe, Duncan, and Parker drew the defense.

Maybe SA or LA doesn't win a championship without him, but on the other hand, LA possibly does win the 2003 championship without him, so it evens out.

Rodman was an all-star twice in his career... it makes him an all-star player... Horry is NOT an all-star. There is definitely a difference between all-stars and role players.

Rodman was so good at his role, that he made the All Star team. Something Horry can't say.

The term role player is stupid. Everybody plays a role on a team.

The old saying "one man can make a difference" can apply to Horry, of couse not the same way as MJ, but Horry was not a bench warmer winning 7 rings, I believe he made some of those Final wins possible like some of you have referred to, and no I am not comparing Horry to MJ, they are very different players, but both was able to reach the high road through different routes, and thanks for the replies to my post.
