I think it's the "superstar phenomenom" that has ruined the NBA by itself. And it all really started with Jordan influencing just about everyone. No more team ball, just watch that one player score 50 pts and dunk on everyone, forget everything else. That one player isn't in the playoffs and isn't doing anything for his team, forget the nba it's too boring now, the team that plays pick and roll and 1-2-2 zone is too boring, etc etc etc. Whine and complain. Where did basketball go? It's like people have redefined basketball as a one man game.

Nothing around the game needs fixing. The game itself needs fixing. Winning basketball has become more about stoppig the other team, not stopping the other team AND putting the ball in the basket.

Unfortunately, David Stern & the refs allowed the Bad Boys to get away w/shoving & grabbing. Ever since the flow of the game has disappeared.

Then came Pat Riley w/his micro-managing style w/the Knicks. Now coaches dictate every play, slowing the game down.

W/less scoring, the game began to emphasize getting to the Ft line & not hitting mid range jumpers.

Its time for the NBA's caretakers to worry about what's on the court & stop fretting about what's off it. Make the game beautiful again & fans will watch once more.

Well, I think they just need to re-seed.

It shouldn't have been the Jazz/Warriors and Spurs/Suns in the 2nd round, a reseed would allow the Spurs to play the JAzz at that time and the Suns/Warriors to play.

Think of the great series you'd get with te Suns Warriors matchup, then another great matchup with the Suns/Spurs.

I also think all the BS calls given out lately just makes the games in general tough to watch. It is too soft now, there is no such thing as physical defense no more, because you'd foul out if you play physical D.

While DWade is fun to watch with all of his circus shots, I think the reason he makes so many of those is simply because the contact that was made was so irrelevent to the move he is doing that it doesn't affect his shot at all, hence why he makes all these circus shots and and1 plays.

It just seems with all the flopping(and flopping now apart of the game) it is just too soft now. And there is a difference between flopping and taking a hard charge.

I think the games would be much better if they let them play more.

Re: Bill Simmons : We need to fix this. Immediately.

A foul is a foul is a foul. Doesn't matter what team is committing it, doesn't matter what player is committing it, doesn't matter when during the game it's committed.

They REALLY need to take a page out of the NFL's book, who couldn't care less if you're freakin' J.J. Stokes or Marvin Harrison when it comes to Pass Interference.

A foul shouldn't NOT be a foul on the Spurs because they're known as "the physical" team while the Suns are known as "the finesse team". It shouldn't matter! That's just one example.

Get rid of the flopping and cheap play ASAP. Hand out HARSH penalties, ANYTHING to get rid of the game. People hate this garbage because it has gotten way out of hand. Basketball is turning into soccer. To stay with flopping, get rid of all charging and blocking fouls, unless cases where a foul is undeniable.

Wipe out ALL referees, and start over. Allow an age minimum and an age maximum (30-55) for them. Losers like **** Bavetta have no business anywhere NEAR a basketball court.

Re-seed the playoffs. Again, the NBA needs to take its' cues from the best run professional sports league in the nation. I really don't unerstand why they don't. Is it because they like to have "the chain" predetermined for TV networks?

GET RID OF DAVID STERN AND STU JACKSON. This needs to be done as soon as possible.

Make all terminology in league rules (like, say, the "bench" rule) CLEARLY DEFINED in every way, and reviewing of these rules should be viewed circumstantially in EVERY CASE.

Those are just a few suggestions.

Re: Bill Simmons : We need to fix this. Immediately.

I see no problem with Simmons' new idea. I think it makes sense and would allow the most important part of the NBA season, the playoffs, to be much more interesting to watch.

Also, a few good points have been brought up about changes in the league.

                1. Penalize players for flopping (TheMatrix31), or simply don't call flops. Maybe have it like the Cross-The-Inbounds-Line rule during an out of bounds play... where the first cross of the line is a warning and the second is a technical, but this time towards the player instead of the team. Also, make these technicals different than regular technicals, where they don't carry fines/suspensions, but simply just hurt your team during the course of the game.

This could get tricky, however, as sometimes plays that look like flops are actually fouls.

                2. Any call made by the referees or the league that leads to a suspension of a player must be looked at in a case by case basis (TheMatrix31 again). I work at a law office, and if each client we have were an NBA player, they would all be in jail. If the NBA were a judge, then someone who accidentally ran over a kid crossing the road would be penalized the same way as a person who went into a house and murdered the kid. There is no leniency to their rules, and it needs to be changed, as it greatly effected the outcome of the playoffs this year.

Plus, how often is a player suspended? Why not have a committee (maybe media members) who is in charge of handing out "sentences."

                3. Fix the contract system in the NBA. Too many teams are ruined simply because the guy they signed for 7 years, $100 million either got injured (Grant Hill) or sucks (Patrick Ewing in his final years as a Knick).

Problem players can be dealt with in an easy way... cut their a**es. It will be just like the NFL, college and HS sports. If the coach doesn't want to put up with your crap, he'll send you packing.

Have contract signing bonuses, maybe performance bonuses, but get rid of guaranteed contracts. This way every team will have the chance to be competitive year after year. Teams with huge salaries and small numbers in the win columns will be able to rebuild quickly, and this in turn will increase the interest in the NBA.

                4. This one I'm still kind of debating over... Make league ratings of NBA officials public. We can laugh at Eddy Curry's assist to turnover ratio, or Quentin Richardson's FG%, but we can't look at the efficiency of some of the most important people in the game... the refs.

Having league ratings of each game by each official is a risk/reward system for the refs. If they do well, even if the crowd was booing or the announcers were complaining, we'll be able to see the next day. If they do poorly, we'll be able to see that too.

I would just like to see certain things like bad calls, good calls, missed calls, and Can-Go-Either-Way calls by each ref for each team and player. Things like superstar calls and home crowd calls would stick out if these reports would be released to the public. I think this system would somewhat fix the refs naturally, as they could be looked at more accurately by the media and fans, and cause them to keep their game tight.

Just a few ideas. Obviously more things need to be done to cure the NBA's woes in ratings, such as marketing and quality of programming (ABC/ESPN suck!), but the system itself is in need of some modification as well.

More and more it seems like the NBA is turning into a money-making business instead of a fan-oriented, fun, sporting event.

Something fun to look at; I believe these would be the 1st round match ups if you seeded 1-16 based on record.

                  Mavs (1) – Clippers (16)
                  Suns (2) – Magic (15)
                  Spurs (3) – Wizards (14)
                  Pistons (4) – Nets (13)
                  Rockets (5) –Warriors (12)
                  Jazz (6) – Lakers (11)
                  Cavs (7) – Nuggets (10)
                  Bulls (8) – Raptors (9)
