    Has anyone noticed....

Has anyone noticed how much the nba is trying to pump up the yao vs shaq thing. I think its major overkill. They replayed the game on espn yesterday and are going to again tonight on tnt. The commercials are even going so far as calling it a "classic matchup". The game was mediocre at best. Shaq and Yao were not even the top scorers of the game, it was Steve Francis. Yao only had like 7 pts.

When will the nba learn that you cant manufacture stars and classic games, they just have to occur naturally.

THe game was replyaed yesterday only because the Wizard/Raptor game was postponed due to snow.

If you actually watched the game, both defense's took Shaq and Yao out of the game.

The game went into OT and was one of the best all year long.

    I think you're just hating.

It's not overkill. Yao is probably the only player in the NBA that has a 50/50 chance of stopping Shaq. THe rst of the league stands at a 20/80 chance.

Too bad Shaq isn't playing tonight.

I thought the first game was excellent. It had everything you could ask for from an NBA game. I think this is a budding new rivalry and a good one at that.

About Francis being leading scorer, who is to say that Shaq wouldn't be leading scorer if Yao wasn't playing?

Not sure what you mean by "hating"? But I'm merely talking about how the new next great thing is the Yao vs Shaq matchup, since the "next MJ" approach doesn't work. I am not downplaying the ability of either player.

I just think its far fetched and overblown to refer to that game as a classic. A recent classic game has to be any of the final games between the kings and lakers in the playoffs last year.

I wasnt referring to kobe and steve, they were hyping it up about yao and shaq which neither dominated the game. I dont think yao even played in the 4th quarter, did he? Also, I remember Gerald Wallace blocking shaq's shot.

I think mvb was mistaken. It wasn't the first time Shaq was blocked, but that game was the first I've seen where a player actually took it straight to Shaq still in his prime (as opposed to Olajuwon in the FInals with a younger Shaq not yet in prime). Not around him, not over him, but through him. The key thing was that Ming did not back off by intimidation, even after Shaq stuffed one over him. Shaq still won the battle in the end, in my opinion, but Ming will only get better.
