    Passing the Torch

I know that most of the threads I start are pretty controversial but this one is going to take a break from that. As most of you know, I am a huge MJ fan. I watched MJ constantly break teams down single-handedly. Most of you are in your teens and remember Jordan's second comeback and how great it was but that wasn't nearly what he used to do. He used to score 45-50 per night on double and triple-teams, and he did it to win, not to pad his stats. However, Mr. Jordan is 40 years old and about to retire and it is about time to pass the torch to the next superstar and poster boy for the NBA. His name is Kobe Bryant. After watching last night's game from start to finish, I can now honestly say I am not a ***** anymore. Why? Because this boy is good!!! He doesn't quite have the explosiveness of the young Jordan (although that dunk on Yao Ming was sick). Instead, he had modeled his game around the second coming of Jordan. He has an uncanny ability to create his own shots, something Jordan was the master of. And, although Kobe does have Shaq to take some of the pressure away and so he is always in a one-on-one situation, last night, he was getting doubled by the Rockets all night and breaking them all night. He was hitting jumpers that I have only seen the likes of one MJ hit. There are 2 things that I still do not like about Kobe and they are: (1) I still feel he plays for stats too much, and (2) He still is taking too many shots. The main differences I see in Jordan and Kobe are: (1) Jordan had a better field-goal %, (2) Jordan took less shots, (3) Jordan did not have the most dominant center in the world on his team, (4) Jordan was more explosive, and (5) Jordan was a MUCH better defender. However, Kobe is 24! He has at least another 10 years to improve. Will he be better than Jordan? Who am I to say. Will he have the impact Jordan had? Doubtful. But he may be as good as Jordan was. All of the people (myself included) who do not like Kobe because we think he is arrogant have to admit that he has an amazing amount of talent, simply based on last night's performance. I still feel he should be taking less than 30 shots per night, however, he is definitely the most gifted athlete in the NBA right now (better than TMac). If he learns how to make his teammates better, the way Jordan did, he will definitely be on par with the greatness of Michael Jordan. All of us Jordan lovers have to face the facts, Kobe is dominating teams offensively. So let's give Kobe some love. The Jordan of old is gone and will never be forgotten. Now it's time to pass the torch and let the future begin its reign. And its name is Kobe!

I used to be Kobe *****, but last season I started to come around. Now, I think Kobe will be even better than Jordan was. I agree with most of your points except I think Kobe is a very good defender. I also think Kobe is much more well rounded of a player at this stage in their careers.

Good Post......As a Laker Fan and NBA fan I feel the same way but like you said he need to work on some parts of his game. I don't think he has great deffense, good yes but not a deffensive stopper. He gambles to much for example agaist the Spurs it was Kobe's man making the 3 pointers at the end of the game. He left them all alone. But like you said he is only 24 years old. Every years he has been getting better and better. So I could see him learning to play better deffense and not taking so many shot.

It gets in my nerves when the Kobe haters say "Kobe doesn't make his team better". I could you make your team better if they can make their shots. Another thing that gets on my nerves is when Kobe haters say "Kobe is to arrogant or to cocky" My response to that is you need to have attitude or be cocky when you play ball. When any real basketball player plays ball he needs to know that the person playing deffense on them and the team you're playing can't stop you. Like allot of Nba players say basketball is 80% mental and 20% physical. Come on unless you're stupid or something every NBA player is arrogant or cocky. If you don't like Kobe thats fine but don't write B/S post that don't make sense just because you don't like the guy. Every player has flaws in their games. Just my opinions.

It of coarse has to eventually happen, but we'll have to see how T-Mac pans out, and one other thing. Whay wasn't this stuff said about AI when he was scoring like such a couple years back, through injuries and all?

                    HYPE

The media jumps on the bandwagon and make you all believe that Kobe is better than Jordan. Why do the media do this, because they need to have another MJ. But the problem is their will never be another MJ.

All this talk about Kobe perhaps been as good, or at the end of their careers...blah blah blah. Kobe will NEVER be anywhere near what Jordan was and is. Jordan is so far in front of any basketballer in the history of the sport that it is almost rediculous.

It is an insult to Jordan to compare Kobe to him and suggest that Kobe could be better. You are also insulting Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Isiah Thomas, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird etc etc who seem to have being pushed behind Kobe in the greatness stakes. This is laughable. Kobe isnt half the player of the above ballers.

                    Once again.... HYPE.

                    That is all it is.

                    By the way....T-Mac is better.

Im not a big Kobe fan either...... but you can't deny that the guy has talent. In the end you might be surprised how close he comes to Jordan-like numbers.
