Marion: "I love my fans in Phoenix, but I think it's time for me to move on

Discouraged after another summer of trade rumors involving him, Suns Marion, a four-time NBA All-Star and the Suns' highest-paid player, said the team has been unwilling to discuss a contract extension.

"I'm tired of hearing my name in trades," Marion said. "I love my fans in Phoenix, but I think it's time for me to move on.

I asked if the team's refusal to give him an extension played into his unhappiness with the team. "It was part of it," Marion said. "It's not like that was the last straw or anything. It was just part of everything that has gone on. People have made assumptions about me, but I don't think all those people know everything that has gone on."

For the most part, though, Marion declined to talk about his unhappiness with the organization. "There's been things that have been said in the media, but I don't want to get into all that," he said. "That's not going to accomplish anything. Most people don't know what goes on behind closed doors. The way I look at it is, I love Phoenix, I love the fans. I love my teammates. Don't let anybody tell you that I don't. Some of the stuff that has happened is messed up. But pointing fingers and all that, I am bigger than that."

Still, a change would be tough for Marion. "I wanted to retire a Phoenix Sun," he said. "That would be nice. I think everyone would like to play their whole career for the team that drafted them. But sometimes it comes to the point where you just have to take that step and move on. It's like a bad marriage. It doesn't matter who's right or wrong, both people should just move on."

Would he show up? "I am a professional," he says. "I will be where I am supposed to be."

What do you guys think now? This comes after claims that Marion wanted a 3 year 60mil extension.

Until something has to happen, I wouldn't read too much into it. How he & the club feels in Sept won't necessarily be the same next June.

        Exactly my feelings.

Although, if he truly wants 20 million a year, then we'd have to let him go.

Seeing the direction the front office is headed, they'll probably trade him for "cash considerations" like everyone else...

            Source?

Golden State is an obvious choice due to the style of ball the play, and them having a premier point guard (albeit, he's no Nash). Golden State also has more valuable pieces then they did before last years playoffs, thanks in large part to Dirk Nowitski. However, I don't see them trading in-conference.

AK-47 for Matrix has been proposed before as both players want out of their current situation. Shawn would have the opportunity to step in and take over the reigns in Utah, but will most likely just be part of another "big three" in himself, Boozer and Williams. The Jazz's style also might not be too conducive to Matrix's style of play. However, I think both teams could benefit from this, and it'd flat out be fun to watch.

The Lakers and Cavs would be a great fit for the Matrix. I don't see Matrix as a superstar. I feel that he is the best #2 option in the league. He is crazy talented and will do all the little and not so little things that help your team, he is capable of dropping a trip-dub at any given time, but he is still a #2. So, put him with some of the best #1 options in the league. Both the Cavs and Lakers are strapped for talent, so give them a guy in Marion who will do alot of the grunt work, lock down the oppositions best player, run the floor, benefit from 23/24's play making, etc. Odom for Matrix would be nice. Lakers would obviously win, but Odom is very underappreciated and underrated in LA. I think his natural skill set (triple double threat) could do some damage in Phoenix as long as he can keep pace.

I think he could do some damage with CP3 and the Hornets if they could somehow swing him as well.

According to a league source, the Lakers and Suns have been in discussions about a deal -- a blockbuster deal -- that would send the four-time All-Star to Los Angeles to play alongside Kobe Bryant. The Suns would get forward Lamar Odom and perhaps some salary-cap filler in return.

Suns do need another slasher since JJ left.

Marion can be a ball handler to help take pressure off of Nash along with Grant Hill, passer, and a post up prescence for PHX. He can create his own shot, not so hot on his D or health though.

Marion can grab rebounds, defend wings and hit open 3's. Relatively healthy all year, but im not sure how well he'd do in the triangle when he can't create his own shot, and can't be a post prescence or playmake. As a #2 guy, im iffy on that.

I wouldn't mind seeing this happen. I hate the Lakers, and hate that they'd get the better of this deal, but as a basketball fan, it'd be fun to watch, and would answer a lot of questions.

Marion: Many haters say that he is the product of the system and Steve Nash and would not be nearly as effective elsewhere. Playing in LA he'd be given the chance to prove them wrong.

Odom: Many haters (mostly Laker "fans" from what I've seen) claim that the guy sucks and is best suited as a number 3 option (which he would be in Phoenix). Others (like myself) say that the guy is mad talented, just in a bad situation. Odom would also get a chance to prove doubters wrong and see if he can excel in another system.

Kobe: He already has Phil. He'd finally have his "Pippen" in Shawn Marion. Shawn Marion is a potential DPOY and as I mentioned earlier could do all of the heavy lifting that Pip did while Kobe gets the limelight he desires. If ever there was a time for Kobe to prove he can win (like Mike) without a dominant center... this is it. Both guys are in their prime and with Marion's skillset he could fill the Pippen role nicely.

The more I think about this, the more I like it.

The Suns would NEVER trade Shawn Marion within the division.

                      NEVER.

I don't see it for that reason as well. They already hate each other. So why would you, 1, make the other team better? And 2, send them a player that has a personal vendetta against you? Like I said before, there's no reason to do anything now. Lots of variables to be played out still.

Marion is a whiner. He's getting paid more than Nash, Amare, etc and yet just complains. He shot down a deal with Boston, but now that LA is calling he's ready to leave? I hope they just keep him and make him play out the contract. Odom or Kirilenko aren't good trades for Phoenix. Marion will be a pro and play.

LA and Utah were the two they were talking about the most on Phoenix sports talk during my 50 min commute this morning. All 50 minutes of that talk was about Marion's blown out vajayjay and how he wants to go to LA. I just don't get how Marion whines so much when he's overpaid compared to Nash and Amare.
