Well why does Kobe average more shot attempts then McGrady?
T-Mac also does it all in less minutes, and shoots a slightly higher percentage then Kobe.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Mcgrady doesn't shoot NEARLY as many jumpers as Kobe. Kobe has Shaq inside, so plays his game for the most part on the perimeter. The magic set pick and rolls and isolation plays almost EVERY time down the floor, which will obviously equal higher % shots. Mcgrady only averages like 1 less minute on the year then Kobe...does Mcgrady drop 28 points in 23 minutes all the time like Kobe? Not really.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Huh ? ? McGrady plays smarter than Kobe. That's what seperates both players in my mind. When McGrady is double teamed, he looks to find the open man rather than shoot. If he has a slower player on him, he'll take it to the hole. If he has a size mismatch, he'll shoot over his defender. Kobe plays more of a chuck and pray style of basketball. So obviously he's going to take tougher shots. I don't see how that makes him a better player though.

And T-Mac has gone for 20-25 points numerous times this season. I believe once he did it against Bryant in LA.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Kobe does what he did today ALL THE TIME, give him his own team thats BUILT around his strenghts like T-MAC and see what happens. And don't give me any BS how Shaq opens things up for Kobe...he scored all his points creating his OWN shots, and found EVERY open teamate when he penetrated. Orlando would be a lottery team in the West, no way in hell he gets MVP over Kobe.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

He does what ALL THE TIME ? .. shoot airballs ? oh right.. you mean play awesome like he did in the first half.

Hrm.. 3 time defending champs. They end up being the 5th seed, and Kobe goes 3-9 w/o Shaq. Uhm.. and you consider him the leading MVP candidate even when he has a better player on his team ?. You're joking, right?.

I watch almost every Magic and Laker game, so I know what I'm talking about. Kobe isn't a great passer when double teamed. As far as penetration goes, he's terrific at finding the switch defender's man. And it's a fact that Shaq does indeed open the floor up for Kobe, and he makes Kobe's job easier. It's easy for Kobe to get assists, rebounds.. you name it. He can even relax on defence knowing he probably won't be beat off the dribble because only a few guards have the balls to take it right at Shaq.

Shaq made Tyronn Lue a great defender, and he made Hardaway a superb player (20,10, and 7, I think). But if you're going to tell me that Kobe, who averages less points, and the same amount of assists (which is strange, since he has Shaq), is a flat-out front runner for MVP over KG or T-Mac you really need to reconsider what you post here. Did you even see the Magic game today?

      Re: All MVP Talk

I'm really suprised to not hear alot about AI. Defensively, he is playing better than McGrady and on the same level as Kobe. He still scores points in a hurry but has done a much better job this year at getting his teammates going. He has a decent supporting cast, not great though. IMO, he is having a better season than his 2001 MVP seaon.

I think AI is a legitimate MVP candidate.

The playoffs have no effect on the MVP...MVP is for regular season. If I am correct, there is a playoff MVP.

^^ I agree. But he won't get it. It's really between Duncan, KG, T-Mac, and Kobe.

What players do in the playoffs influence votes for MVP. For example.. if Kobe scored 50 in 3 straight games the media would get him a boost for MVP. No ?

By the media perhaps, but I dont THINK playoffs should mean anything. Maybe they do look at it when voting, but they shouldnt. It's regular season MVP.

I agree. But in reality, playoffs give the better players an edge for MVP. Look at AI back in 2000.

My frontrunner right now is TMac, followed by KG, TD, and Kobe. Now before everyone gets , TD couldn't pull a clutch performance yesterday, KG needs more support from his team, and Kobe won't get it, because the media doesn't think he deserves it, because HE has Shaq.
