    ESPN's 2007-08 Team Forecasts

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/s...ecastIndex0708

Everyone's favorite insider-John Hollinger- makes his predictions for the upcoming NBA season. You may commence melting down... now.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

He predicted the Wiz to win 33 games. The Hawks and the Bobcats in the playoffs? The Nets, Raptors and Wiz not making the playoffs? My NBA pride will go down the drain if that becomes reality because I have the Nets going to the ECF's barring injuries.

I can't argue with his predictions on the West, because I wouldn't be surprised if the Hornets beat out the Warriors for a playoff spot. The Hornets, Warriors, and Lakers and Grizzlies will battle for the 7th and 8th spots. The first 6 spots are already accounted for and booked.

      Re: ESPN's 2007-08 Team Forecasts

Raptors at 39 wins is defensible with proper arguments, but Hollinger's reasoning is absolute garbage.

Before we get started, let's try to look at what Toronto had last season. Yes, the Raptors won 47 games. They also got a career year (in terms of PER) from Ford.

      And Calderon.

      And Graham.

      And Humphries.
So, a 2 third-year players and 2 second-year players had the best seasons of their career? What's so shocking about this. This is what young players do, they improve on previous seasons.

The departed Peterson and Jones also had productive campaigns compared to their previous norms, while there were no offsetting disappointments.
Not sure which Raptors team he was watching, but MoPete was a complete disappointment and was practically nailed to the bench for the latter part of the season. Fred Jones, meanwhile, was a bust and was shipped out of town after becoming a fixture in the DNP-CD column.

So there are two possible conclusions. One, that the Raptors' system and Mitchell's genius combined to make everyone better than they ever were before. Or two, that nearly everyone played over their head and is headed straight back to Earth.

Until or unless further evidence for the first possibility surfaces, I'll be going with No. 2.
This is just complete lunacy. Does he honestly believe that the ONLY possible course of action this season is that a 23-year-old Chris Bosh, 21-year old Andrea Bargnani, 24-year old TJ Ford, 26-year-old Jose Calderon, 26-year-old Jason Kapono, 25-year-old Carlos Delfino, 25 year-old Joey Graham will all simulateneous REGRESS this season? Is there any evidence why a core as young as this has any reason to do anything but improve?

Wow that "analysis" and I use the word loosely of the Raptors is just BS. Oh well, I like the Raps in the underdog role so i'll just laugh at the "experts" then the Raps make the playoffs again.

48-34 for the Pistons seems generous.
