I think what we will see first is an NBA European League along with an NBA Chinese League.

Perhaps in the future, though no time soon, we'll see those leagues combine with the current NBA. But it all starts with establishing leagues outside of this country.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

that's a bad idea..there are too many teams right now..the league doesn't need other Ginobilis, Obertos etc.

A single All-Star game is more realistic but its a bit of a risk because the NBA would look bad if they planned a All-Star game overseas and then it ends up failing.

I think the NBA should stick to U.S. though and we should be more worried about the growth and expansion of FIBA and not the NBA. FIBA is the world league, hopefully one day they will bring the FIBA Club Championships to basketball, I know the FIBA higher-ups want to have a Club Championship for the world, but Basketball has to continue its growth in popularity.

So the NBA should stick with North America and its problems here first before even thinking about it, and I guess Stern is smart enough to realize that because he isn't considering it now.

Canada is more European than American. Just bring back the NBA to canada and u have European teams there. But seriously, I don't like the idea. I mean, many European teams are at the NBA's level but I want to see NBA basketball. I've been watching Euroleague basketball for 30 years and it bores me to death compared to the NBA.

I don't know, with it's bastardization of the rules of the game, I'd rather see the NBA become the governing body for basketball than FIBA. By the NBA seeking to aggressively expand, this could happen down the road.

Um, what? Canada is FAR more American than European and it's not even close.

                    Re: "Transatlantic Expansion"

I remember some discussion on the subject last season, and there was a quote that I think sums it up perfectly:

"And you think players don't want to go to Milwaukee or Toronto?"

There's no chance this will happen.
