I have only played Live 2003 and ID 2003... I'll be playing NBA 2k3 come March 28 though.
I have listed the game which is the best at each category
1. post game: ID 2003
2. ballhandling/dribble moves: NBA Live 03
3. post defense: ID 2003
4. playbooks: ID 2003
5. realistic team tendencies: ID 2003
6. realistic player tendencies: ID 2003
7. realistc fouls and foul attempts: NBA Live 2003
8 realistc fast breaks: ID 2003
9. rebounding: ID 2003
10. perimeter defense: ID 2003
As u can tell from the above, ID 2003 is the more realistic game overall and in my opinion the best of the two. NBA 2k3 is supposed to be very realistic as well though with better graphics than the other two. The thing i'm looking forward to the most about NBA 2K3 is the ability to change your shot in mid air by pressing the shoot button twice -

I have played all 3 and here are my opinions to your questions.
1.Post game: Inside Drive
2.Ball handlig/dribble moves: Live 03 but lil more exaggerated
3.Post Defense: Inside Drive
4.Play Books: Inside Drive
5.Realistic team tendences: Inside Drive
6.Realistic player tendences: Inside Drive
7.Fouls and fould attemps: either 2k3 or live?
8.Realistic fast breaks: Inside Drive
9.Rebounding: Inside Drive
10.Perimeter defense: Inside Drive
This is just just my opinons and as you can see Inside Drive is the more realistic one and the cheapest 29.99! Not saying Inside Drive is perfect in those categorys just saying its the best video games have to offer this season.-JoshComment

Re: Rate the big three in every category for a fellow b-ball junkie
Haven't played 2k3 or Live but I can do a really compressed break down of what's wrong in ID (it's important): The biggest first. Fouls suck. Every shooting foul is a bless. You can be happy some games if you get more than 5. Personally my record is 21 once but besides that I've gotten 15 once and other than that it's around 10. ID defenders wouldn't play more than 5 minutes in the NBA cause they let opposing players drive and shoot as they please if they get past their guards. BIIG problem.
ID rebounding is not good. Too many (sh*t loads in fact) offensive rebounds and pretty much only the big guys get defensive rebounds. There are no long rebounds.
Real flow is absent in the animations. You won't see true drives over defenders and classy stuff like that.
ID gets the most praise so I thought I'd let you know the downsides too. It's not a bad game though, it just really gets to me in those three parts of the game.Comment

Re: Rate the big three in every category for a fellow b-ball junkie
Big problem with ID 2003 is the turbo. it's gotta be limited, because if it's not, it means the offensive player will be too fast for the defense to even have a CHANCE to catch up.
However, the defense does NOT just let an offensive player just drive and shoot. They do collapse often on the offensive player and strip him of the ball, however, there isn't much pressure applied on the jumpshot.
Another annoyance is that if you're taking a few steps toward the basket and you're just in the key and you press shoot, the offensive player AUTOMATICALLY takes two steps and goes up for a dunk even in traffic. Very annoying especially when you're trying to draw a foul by shooting it in traffic (chances increase of someone colliding with you when you're in your shooting motion). This really depends on if it's a player like Stackhouse, but it's still a problem. There should be some kind of combo to make this happen instead of doing a normal jumpshot. Also, I'd like to see pumpfakes under the basket instead of just going up for the jumpshot/dunk. Again, a combo would be useful here to distinguish between pumpfaking and shooting.
I'm actually getting a lot more fouls called now as I try to stay within the offense and call appropriate timeouts. Believe it or not, there are NBA games where teams go to the line a total of 14 times. Sometimes it just works out that way. However, the blocking and jumpshot animations I had previously desribed in another post need to be improved upon for a better chance at fouling.
Still, it's the best b-ball game out as far as I'm concerned, but when I get too caught up in trying to get fouled, it's time to step away from the game for a while, because it gets too frustrating.Comment

Re: Rate the big three in every category for a fellow b-ball junkie
Neo, the day before yesterday and yesterday I actually saw a few great looking drive-fouls just like they happen in real life. I ran the play and drove. Each time I did it right from the middle. I guess they foul more if you go for the lay up from the middle and atop of the dotted line.
I too noticed that they foul more when you're going for a lay-up. And that way there won't be so many "and 1s". You could try setting player tendencies more to lay-up (alot) and increase dunk range- attributes. I've experimented with these before but I didn't combine all of these methods. I'll try 'em tonight. Let's hope for the best.Comment
