As for the economic problems of the city of Detroit, its more of a statewide problem, or at least eastern side of the state problem I believe. As for the Wings, I think they may have priced themselves out of the market a little bit when it comes to tickets. I moved to Chicago about a year and a half ago but those are the thoughts that come to mind.
    My Teams:
    NFL - Washington Redskins
    MLB - Detroit Tigers
    NBA - Detroit Pistons

A lot of that has little to do with the NBA. The schedule for the NBA is just horrible from a sports standpoint.

November and December are regular season NFL and college football. The NBA will lose out to those 100% of the time. Plus, November and December just suck in general with the cold weather, short days, and more cold weather.

Then January is Bowl games and NFL playoffs. The NBA might as well take a month off as far as the average sports fan cares.

February is NBA and college basketball. However, March is college basketball's.

Then in April, baseball starts up and is relevant for a month or two. THat pretty much leaves the playoffs as the only time the NBA is really relevant by itself.

Still if u ask a lot of Europeans they would tell u they wouldn't miss any home game. I can't speak in the name of all Euro guys, of course, but trust me - most of them prefer the NBA 10 times better than college hoops. College hoops still got a lot of fans outside the US but remember that foreign viewers don't have the tradition or pride of college hoops that u guys have. As for the NFL, I personally like it a lot and I watch it when possible, but still think that when it comes to American sports in Europan's point of view - basketball is on the top. no competition.

MJ must have forgotten the time when he was the next Dr J., and Magic was the new Oscar Roberston, lol...

Comparisons have always happened, and will always will happen. The only difference is that 25 years ago those conversations were held in the living room, in barbershops and at the lunch table...instead of on international forums, websites and on the multitude of 24-hour a day sports news sources.

          Same ish, bigger bullhorn...

You have pretty much answered the question for yourself.

David Stern started marketing the players because of the popularity globally after the 92 Olympics in Barcelona. And since Stern and company knew that the foreign market really had no intimate attachment to any certain team. That it would be much easier to sell Michael Jordan himself than the Chicago Bulls.

Basically this whole marketing of the players were directed at people like you from foreign countries.

Yes, it was me!!! I admit! I did it!! But it was only a joke! I didn't know they were serious! No, please, noooooooooooo!!!

              Just kidding!

Well, u got a point. But sadly the NBA today is different than it was 15-16 years ago, though even in 1992 I could tell u any team's lineup and style of play (in 10th grade I used to write on the back of each of my school notebooks the lineup of some NBA team). Except for Michael Jordan I looked at the NBA as a league and each team was a team for me, not a bunch of individuals. The only time I saw it as individuals was during the Allstar weekend. Maybe I'm not the average foreign NBA fan...don't know...
