Did anyone try this re: ID 2003?
Anyone try editing the players and upping the drive defense by 5 (an arbitrary number) if the player was a pg, sg, or sf, and upping the post defense by 5 if the player was a pf or c? I find it makes the game much better in terms of trying to drive to the basket. It could possibly create more fouls as well, and make the game a lot more realistic as a whole. This is just a theory though.Tags: None -

Re: Did anyone try this re: ID 2003?
The funny thing about this FT controversy is, one game I had yesterday had nearly 25 FT's total combined for both teams.
I was pretty pissed off and wondering why we saw soo many Ft's.
I really think MORE FT's may equal a more "non fun" experience.
It's weird that I was thinking that, because I know about the fouling flaw in ID, but the game wasn't fun with a crap load of Ft's. Believe it or not most NBA games are a FT fest.
Maybe we should reconsider the fouling "bug/glitch"
I dont want them going over board.
I guess 15-20 ft's a game is a good number. Right now I get 5-15 a game. A minor adjustment is all that is really nedded.Comment

Re: Did anyone try this re: ID 2003?
That's why I'm suggesting this. I just started editing the players. I first changed the drive defense of the PG, SF, and SG's on the Boston Celtics. Before, I had a very easy time driving with Iverson and Snow. Now it's not as easy.
Also, I think a BIG part of the free throw problem is the cruddy post defense as well. You can make almost ANY big man dominant in the post when they shouldn't be. It's too easy to spin around the defender and dunk it because the post defenders offer very little resistance. Especially when you drive at them. They SHOULD sacrifice their bodies to prevent you from easily scoring but they don't, they just step away, which I noticed as I had Iverson go at a couple of Celtics in the paint and they just stepped away.Comment

Well, that's why they have the different rule tendencies. For those who don't want a free throw fest, they can adjust accordingly. Personally, I would look forward to simulating it as best as I can and I would like it (at least for a little while) if I could shoot a ton of free throws. By the way, how DID you get all those free throw attempts? Did you have a lot of blocking fouls? how many minutes were you playing? What teams did you play with?Comment

Re: Did anyone try this re: ID 2003?
Hope there exists some edit system that gives more FTs. Wally, "we" do want more FTs. I'd kill to get a game in which I shoot 40 FTs. Damn, I'd kill even for a game of 20 FTs for me.
Maybe the solution is hidden there somewhere. So anybody who cares, try whatever crosses your mind. If it's there and we find it, I'll love this game. Now it just frustrates me.
P.S. This is something that the programmers should handle, not us.Comment

Well, early trials seem to indicate the defender sticks with the offensive player better, and has more of a chance to foul him, but it doesn't guarantee fouling. I still don't see bodies being sacrificed by the AI, but I see that being the case with my own teammates (very weird, but my teammates have taken a few charges and such). The defensive fundamentals are great, and the AI does force you to certain positions, it's just that the defense doesn't do anything after that in terms of causing a charge or blocking foul.
I think the dunks need to be reduced, there are just too many, the layups need to be increased, and players need to step in front to sacrifice their bodies or swipe at the ball as the ball is being laid up or dunked. the last part RARELY, if ever happens, especially in the middle of an animation. Also, whenever they do swipe at the ball, it's considered a clean steal instead of a foul even when the offensive player throws his hands up. Many times, this should be considered a shooting foul. They've gotta code for better fouls.
I, too, am getting tired of this game, and NBA games in general. Fouls are a crucial feature in the game that makes it more challenging and intense. Without it, there's just not as much intensity in the game, IMHO. There's very little pressure to perform since you can basically chuck up any shot with any teammate without the worry about being unable to score. And of course, players need to get tired faster and in many cases, there should be an impact on the player's performance when he's tired. Tthe rotations need to be improved so the bench is used in a more limited way.Comment
