Vince Carter haters - a counterpoint

Some interesting stuff. For what he did in Toronto, I'll always think he's a punk.

Interesting counter argument but I still feel Vince doesn't exploit his explosiveness enough. Sure statistically he looks pretty good but when you watch games he'll only go inside when it's easy to do so. The guy just doesn't have the heart or the desire to go for the tough buckets when the chips are down. That's when he's usually going for the mid-range game.

Hell just look at a couple years ago when the Nets played the Raptors in the playoffs. Vince was soft and didn't penetrate to the basket often enough in the games in Toronto but when the atmosphere is more friendly to him and the flow of the game was going more to the Nets he attacked the rim like crazy and frankly he was unstoppable. The guy still has the talent to take over the game that way but he chooses not to.

Vince was one of my favourite players and was a big part of why im such a huge basketball fan. He could've been better than Kobe if he had the heart and/or desire to be.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

VC's passing has been a very good part of his game these days...Probably his greatest asset. After what 3-4 years, I don't really care about dissing him anymore...All is preety much forgotten. Still love hearing those let's go Raptors-VC sucks chants tho.

As an avid Nets fan I can tell Vince Carter isn't jumping close to his highest when going for dunks. I've seen him get his head 2-3 inchs from the rim.

And he does settle for jumpers, I remember several times when the Nets would play the Suns, pull a pick and roll and Carter was being guarded by guys like nash and Barbosa, those are situations where you need to post them up but he attempts a stutter step and rises for the shot.

But people do bash him too much. He EFFORTLESSLY scores 20 points a game and is more than capable of running an offense for several set plays.

This op ed is complete BS, lol. It's an apology alright. Anyone who watches Nets games knows that Vince is settling, and comparing him to Kobe and Mike is just criminal. Vince is moody and only plays aggressively when he's in that mood. Otherwise he's content to settle. I can't remember the last time he put the defense on its heels as a player. Nevermind his dunking or driving to the hole; Vince Carter is a loser. He's willing to win during the good times, but when it gets rough he just pouts, and shows no willpower at all.

I think he's good and still has his skillset, but there seems to be something missing, maybe it's the heart and desire as everyone claims. He doesn't seem to lead his team anywhere as his cousin Tmac always has to, even though both are at about a similar level of play, IMO.

He was a beast in his early days, now he seems to have settled into a comfortable zone.

He just doesn't look like he's having fun anymore. I don't really watch Nets games but whenever I catch one he looks like he's just going through the motions of the game.

It seems he has fun with the other players joking around and stuff but when it comes to playing basketball he just doesn't enjoy it, to get into the game.

You'll see it at the end of games where the Nets will loose but 2-3 points, he's is smiling and making plans with the other players. I miss the days when he would get pissed off. The scariest players in this league are the ones who get pissed off.

I seriously got chills at 04:55.

He was just a flat out beast and not just for dunking. I never really labeled the guy as soft. He just came off as non-interested. Just like his cousin. Maybe it's in their genes.

I could see how Carter comes off as non-interested; laughing with opponents through losses and not having quite the fire of a superstar, but I don't see how his cousin really fits. T-Mac hasn't won squat but he's always taken losing a LOT harder than Vince has. T-Mac's won less than Vince but he seems to be much more affected by it than Vince. Non-interested would not be the term to describe T-Mac.

VC needs a good big man. He left a developing one in Toronto and there's no prospects in Jersey right now. The people that hate on him though need to look at his stats once Kidd was traded.

I think I know what bigeast was saying. With T-Mac, you can tell basketball isn't his number one priority as it is with people like LeBron and Kobe, but T-Mac still plays with more heart then 70% of the league
