Re: NBA creates role for "referee operations"
I agree man. I think in particular the "more transparency" comments are BS, considering we have heard that before.
this quote was pretty comical imo:
"Although I don't have a basketball background, other than as a lifelong fan, I am confident that my experience as an Army commander and engineer has equipped me to bring leadership and innovation to the NBA's exceptional officiating program."
sounds like it's probably another puppetLast edited by ZB9; 07-01-2008, 06:11 PM.Comment

Re: NBA creates role for "referee operations"
A PR move isn't an operational cleanup. Until the NBA presents full disclosure of its procedures & grading criteria, they will always be suspect.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: NBA creates role for "referee operations"
If it's officiating is exceptional then he's not here to clean up anything.
It's not an accident that the league is withholding that information that could set them free in the light of being exposed in an area or two.
Going after Donaghy for shoe expenses is pretty petty IMO, and I guess hiring an ex 2 star military guy is supposed to mean what? They're more trained in doublespeak than Stern is.Comment

Re: NBA creates role for "referee operations"
That's what I said... until I see a real improvement im counting it as a media deterrent because honestly, this wouldn't be happening had Donaghy said not a word.
.. and again, there are changes every year without the results, so we'll see what happensComment

Re: NBA creates role for "referee operations"
How is this a change? They didn't have "oversight" of the refs before? All they've done is give it a new name & put somebody w/out any basketball experience in charge because "General So-&-so" sounds like somebody authoritative.
The fans deserve substance, not redecoration.
so if someones not doing thier job (i.e, the old head of "referee oversight"), what do you do? dont you bring someone new in? someone you think can get the job done?
hey, this guy may be a complete flop....its not like im saying hes going to save the game but YES, it IS a change...
your one of then ones calling for Sterns head right? so if they replaced Stern, would it be a change or a "redecoration" of the commish? lol
come on...Comment

come on...
....Has the NBA done anything to address the accusations & situation besides deny, deny & deny?
....Have they changed procedures?
....Have they fired anyone?
....Have they admitted they dropped the ball in any area?
....Have they explained their operations?
....Have they provided any data to back their claims?
24, why is the NBA hiring this guy, who has no background in professional sports whatsoever, to "oversee" an operation that they say hasn't had any flaws? This is nothing more than NBA going "good job, Brownie" then asking for a resignation. They are redirecting your attention elsewhere so that you'll ignore what's behind the curtain.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: NBA creates role for "referee operations"
I just can't get myself to understand why anyone has this much good faith trust in the NBA so easily.
It's been years since I've seen the NBA make a change that benefitted the game and fans over something that wasn't based solely on money or it's "image".
As I said, until I see them actually DO something to fix the problems, it's a PR move.Comment
