Does the NBA demand updated arenas for teams?
Does the NBA demand updated arenas for teams? If so, why? I hear that the Sonics didn't make an arena, so part of the reason they are leaving is because of a lack of a modern arena.

Re: Does the NBA demand updated arenas for teams?
well both key arena is almost 30 years old in the early mid 90 s they re did it and made it larger. The city did not want to build a new arena because they are still paying for new stadiums for sea hawks and mariners. The city wanted to renovate Key arena again. The sonics did not want that. Those suites and private rooms go for a pretty penny, and most nba teams get % of that money even if its not a nba related event going on. And there is just so much you can do to 30 year old arena. They paid 75 million to leave and they well make that up quickly in OKC.
Think about new unis , new city that loves NBA basketball and a up and coming player like KD they will be making the money back quick.
I work with 2 of architectural firms that design almost all the new arenas in stadiums in the world. And have learned that the talks for an arena talk year to get done. It took the Magic here in Orlando 3 years to finally get it done for a new arena and i working on the Rays new stadium in Tampa / St Pete.
But i dont think Seattle will get a new team any time soon. Because they would have to have a "Brand New Arena" in Downtown Seattle. Because Vegas wants a team and KC has great new arena with no team. They got 18mths to get there stuff together, if they want a team in 5 years."Never say never, because limits are like fears and they are often just an illusion."-M.J. -

As for Seattle, I don't think people will be too desperate for a new team. If they are anything like the people of N.Carolina, they are going to feel hurt, betrayed & slandered by the league. Its why the Bobcats don't have near the popularity & love the Hornets had. Its akin to your spouse telling you her adultery is your fault.Originally posted by VP Richard M. its all about the suties and revenue stream for the nba. they could careless they are raising taxes for its residents.
this reminds me of the alamodome in SA. they were geting 32,000 people in there for playoff games. but they only had a few dozen suites. after winning that championship in 99, they wanted more revenue. forget about the fans. so only 8 years after opening the alamodome, they opened up the new SBC center miles away from the riverwalk area and in some residential community area.
they got their suites and that guranteed money thoughComment
