Re: Josh Childress To Greek Team?
When I first read the title, I thought he was pulling a Chris Kaman, and I was somewhat upset about it LOL.
I wonder why he's so upset with having to play with the Hawks?
If he truly is that unhappy, playing overseas for this year wouldn't be a bad choice. He's still young, and he'd enter a market that could pay him more. -
Re: Josh Childress To Greek Team?
It's not that he's unhappy playing for the Hawks, it's the fact that he's getting zero contract talk from them. He's a restricted free agent, so they basically own him. They are clearly set on Josh Smith first, and even Smith is unhappy that he's not receiving any contract talk. I highly doubt Atlanta is trying very hard, and aren't willing to do a S&T with either of them at the moment.
I think this whole thing of playing overseas will be a new way out for players in bad situations. Not even necessarily bad situations, but ways to make bigger money than they could have in the NBA. I hear Carlos Delfino is planning on playing in Russia after signing a 3year deal.I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can'tComment

Re: Josh Childress To Greek Team?
He would be the kind of coveted, young American talent who hadn’t previously left the NBA for Europe.
It will suck for 2k players though. His shot seems to go in no matter when you release the shooting button. He's money.Comment

Re: Josh Childress To Greek Team?
After the little stint they had in the playoffs, and a guy alot of teams would love to have, the Hawks still don't have a plan to win, or care for that matter...
The owner is a moron, and that budget thing he has on the team is ridiculous.Comment

Re: Josh Childress To Greek Team?
Atlanta Hawks fans won't have to fret over the fate of restricted free agent swingman Josh Childress anymore.
That's because Childress is no longer a Hawk. He said he agreed to terms Wednesday morning on a three-year contract with Olympiakos of Greece that is worth far more than $20 million initially reported.
"It's official, I just signed," Childress said by phone Wednesday morning from Athens, where he and agent Jim Tanner will be until Friday. "I think it was . . . a situation where I didn't know who to expect coming in, coming over to Athens. But it's a great city and a great organization. They do whatever they can to make you feel at home."
The deal is the most lucrative current contract in European basketball and the biggest in Euroleague history. It's also another step in the globalization of the game, a trend that got a huge boost recently when the top-rated U.S. high school player, California native Brandon Jennings, opted for a contract with an Italian team over playing at Arizona.Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

Re: Josh Childress To Greek Team?
I really think this might happen more in the future with mid to lower tier level players.
If I was in their situation, I would much rather double to triple to quadruple the money I would make in the NBA in a beautiful European city, see the world, tax free, expenses free, etc... than play in Minnesota. Or for a bad owner. Or to sit on my *** all year knowing I will be cut the next year.
Kudos to Childress.Comment

Re: Josh Childress To Greek Team?
With the money some of these European clubs have I am beginning to wonder with the strengthening Euro vs. the weakening dollar how long it will be before these teams are offering more money than NBA teams could to sign top US players.Comment

Re: Josh Childress To Greek Team?
Well it isn't exactly unprecedented. Danny Ferry went to Europe rather than playing for the Clippers, Brian Shaw left the Celtics to go to Europe, and Dominique Wilkins also went overseas in lieu of NBA offersComment

The Atlanta Hawks have lost forward Josh Childress but not to another NBA team. According to a report published by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Childress said he agreed to terms Wednesday morning on a three-year contract with Olympiakos of Greece that is worth far more than $20 million initially reported.
