Kidd Getting No Extension in Dallas Either??

Look on the front page to see this joint pop up right before my eyes. Clearly, I saw the degradation of Kidd during the playoffs. He is really getting old. Almost looking like the downgrade of Payton minus the ring he got. Personally, I use to be a fan until I heard of his whining and moaning that turned the locker room sour. I know it's a business but man, no love for the game??

I never heard any stories about his moaning having an affect on the locker room in Jersey.

the Mavs are upgraded at the PG position for next season. (Harris is good, but he is more of a tweener guard imo). This is the best Dallas has been at the point guard since Nash left.

but they arent better when it comes to 3 years from now

as far as the "rumor", it's a rumor this writer himself is starting. He is throwing **** against the wall, but he isnt really going out on a limb, because there is a good chance that Dallas wont sign him to an extension, but they could. The Mavs might sign him to another 3 year deal or something at a reduced salary. They havent said anything about it either way. This writer doesnt know either way, he's just taking a guess.

here is the entire article from the NJ star ledger. I get a feeling this writer doesnt like Kidd very much. I sense some bitterness. He could also be a friend of Thorn...or it could be both.

BEIJING -- He will likely collect a gold medal in five days, even if he looks ready to collect social security, too.

He will start for the best basketball team on earth, even if he'll spend most of the game admiring it from the bench.

Jason Kidd couldn't have expected this when he signed on to make the trip to Beijing to help resurrect U.S. basketball. But here he is, the third-best point guard on a team that should -- make that will -- reclaim the top spot in the world when the Olympic quarterfinals begin Wednesday.

Here he is, the greatest player in the Nets' NBA history, fielding softball questions before practice from one Chinese TV reporter while crowds of reporters gather around the real stars, LeBron and Kobe.

"Can you speak any Chinese?" the woman asks.

"Uh, not that much, no," Kidd replies.

"Not even, 'Ni Hao?'" she asks.

"Oh, I can say that. Ni Hao!"

This is the kind of exchange you'd expect to see with a scrub like Brian Scalabrine, not the point guard who is No. 3 all-time in triple doubles. Kidd smiles and plays along.

He is the team captain and elder statesman, a respected leader who gets deferential treatment. He just doesn't play much. If he is uncomfortable with his role, he is smart enough to understand that disrupting Team USA's goodwill tour would be one of the biggest missteps of his career.

This winter, Kidd grumbled and groaned until Nets general manager Rod Thorn had no choice but to ship him to Dallas. This summer, Kidd is playing the role of the perfect team-first guy, offering guidance to young guards Deron Williams and Chris Paul ... the same guards with the fresher legs and better teams in the Western Conference.

Along the way, he is providing further confirmation of Thorn's decision to ship him out of East Rutherford for Devin Harris. Kidd wanted a contract extension from the Nets. Now, there is no talk about him getting one in Dallas, either. With the Mavs fading, these Olympics could be Kidd's final stab at a championship.

"He has great credibility, besides being a Hall of Fame guard," Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "He has instant respect from everybody."

Kidd lost much of that respect in his former home, erasing most of the goodwill he established in his first six years with the Nets in his final season. Asked if he would do anything differently to change his acrimonious exit, Kidd shrugged.

"It's just business," he said. "We had a great run. Sometimes, with moves, business gets in the way. The sad thing is, nobody there is left from when we started the whole thing. I guess you could say they're starting over."

Team USA was also starting over after the disastrous 2004 Games in Athens. It was Kidd who called GM Jerry Colangelo and asked for a roster spot, understanding the value of playing on a gold-medal team.

Kidd was there in 2000, back when the concept of the Dream Team was getting stale but before the world had caught and lapped the Americans. He won't pick which team is better -- "It's like comparing Jack and Tiger," he said -- but he thinks the 2008 team should be judged differently because of the improved competition.

"You'd have to say this team was better due to the different countries that are better," Kidd said. "Is this team as good as 1992? Well, it's younger. Maybe better defensively. And the competition in '92 was not even close to 2000 and not nearly as good as 2008."

That's as close as Kidd would come to declaring what others already have: That this is the best team in U.S. history. If it wins the gold and continues to spread goodwill, it could be the most important. Regardless of his playing time, Kidd will be a big part of that.

"He has a certain aura about him," Paul said. "He's the only guy on our team that's won a gold medal here, and we understand that."

Paul had a crowd of reporters around him. Kidd, meanwhile, was able to slip off onto the court to practice free throws. He is 12th in scoring on a 12-man team, sixth in assists and seventh in rebounding. He will get a gold medal just the same.

Wow, we sure are a culture of the here-and-now. The original 1992 "Dream Team" was comprised of 11 present-and-future HOF'ers, the team was so staked that other HOF'ers like Isiah Thomas didn't even play for them, isn't better than a team with 3 definite, maybe 4 or 5 possible HOF'ers.

The 1992 team would wipe the floor with any of these past Olympic teams since then. And, Jason Kidd is a moron to say their a better defensive team than one with Jordan, Pippen, Karl Malone and David Robinson.

He started losing his lateral movement about 3 years ago, he's almost a liability on D anymore. He's still fast in a straight line but when you get older it gets tougher to cut. I never thought it would happen to me (lol) and I watched it happen to him.

What a joke. The 80's Celtics, Lakers and even the Sixers would probably whoop these guys. Jordan's 90's Bulls too, probably more.

I used to watch every game, I had tapes of all the playoffs, go to Knicks and Net games and played at a high level. The NBA has deteriorated badly, the percentage of guys who can shoot has dropped dramatically, as has the current players basketball IQ. Look at what happened against teams who knew how to shoot and pass and play the game properly, USA was outclassed. Everyone on the original dream team knew how to PLAY. Carrying, traveling, 5 step hop stepping and dunking is not basketball, I blame Stern for not enforcing the rules for so many years. If they were half as good as they thought we would have never lost in International competition.

If these white euro guys made the USA look stupid in past competition what do you think Magic, Bird teams would do to them??? It's like when you're a kid and you think you're great and you play a bunch of old guys who pass the ball and whip your a$$ and you just dismiss it as a fluke, even after they beat you 11-5 three games in a row, it's not a fluke.

I grow up with the old school NBA and I completely agree with plenty of your statement. The rivalry series alone in the playoffs felt like I was watching an NBA finals quality kind of series.

The Mavs shouldn't resign him and if we don't come out hot this season, probably should try to move that expiring deal at the deadline.
