What good is a dress code when you get caught in a lie saying you only had one rogue ref blowing games for financial gain when it was in fact not true.

Stern may most certainly be a rat and worse, but the public at large is not going to look at the constitution of the league and say, "ya know, I just don't respect that league because of that darn rat commissioner.... unless that commissioner changes his act, I will not watch a game, sport a jersey or buy a ticket ever, ever again." All of major sports has lived through their share of bum leaders. And I'm with Barkley, pro athletes do not need to be my kids' role models. Just don't be F-ups.

Those are separate issues. Certainly the ref situation is bad bad bad. Stern handled that poorly. He's always too defensive like his crap don't stink. Admit you have some problems and you're going to deal with it, don't lie. The dress code was a good thing and I think does help image. When you have guys that look like thugs and not upstanding members of society on benches, etc, it looks bad, and I don't care what anybody says.

I agree but athletes are role models to some degree. At some point you have to understand if you're an athlete that you can't act like an idiot. Show some class and realize you're a millionaire and part of that job is on the court but off the court too. You represent the NBA and its image every single day. It's a fact.... so accept your millions but realize you have to be "on" all the time. How hard is it not to be a moron? for some...... it seems pretty dang hard. if you want to be an idiot, trade in your millions and go thug.... fine.

Well it's hard for refs to apologize for screwing up an NBA game since that was their intention from the start.

Who are these thugs you're talking about?

This goes to my point exactly. David Stern is too worried about the wrong thing to fix the things that need to be fixed. That's the problem, because as i said what good is a dress code if you league looks corrupt

For whatever the reason is, NBA players get scrutinized way more, and the league has lost more respect than those other two sports respectively.

I agree to an extent, the NBA was a black dominated sport in the Jordan era too and the ratings were amazing. My father and a few of his friends were diehard Knicks fans since the 60's and they stopped watching pro ball around the end of the Ewing Era. They say it's because, "The NBA is all tatooed covered punks with cornrows who play no defense." Whether that's the truth or not is irrelevant since that's how a good portion of the public views the league.

They just pay those dudes way too much money and the league is too young now... you got young *** millionaires runnign around doing and saying whatever they want...

money + stupid youth your asking for trouble.

atleast when mike charles pat larry nique and them were doing dirt they were smart enough not to broadcast it to the world just for the sake of their street credibility.

Trying to teach guys class/ By whose standards? I completely disagree with the spirit behind the dress code as much as I do the dress code. But Stern is the reason that you would never see a ref admit something like this.

What does a thug look like? Hpw does a person look at another person on a team bench and assume that person is a thug? By using their own personal biases and stereotypes. Thats my point about the dress code, Stern played right into the hands of those who want to stereotype. He is the principal reason why the NBA struggles.

I would like to see some retired nba players take the rookies and mentor them during the season show them the ropes of what to do and not, I know they have rookie orientation, but we saw how that worked for Chalmers and Beasley, these are young kids with lots of money but they are dumb, because they dont know better. They need some guidence.

You stated that the reason the NBA gets little respect is because of black players. That's not an opinion that's fact.
