Re: Jonathan Bender feel-good story
Great find. Too bad the media likes to focus on knuckleheads like Josh Howard than good guys like Bender. -

That is great, very proud of his achievements and desire to do more. Very impressed. The Sports Preacher

Re: Jonathan Bender feel-good story
Guess who's bizzack!
New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Donnie Walsh announced today that free agent forward Jonathan Bender has been signed to a contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. InsideHoops.com guesses that it is a nonguaranteed contract for one season.
“Jonathan has worked extremely hard in preparing himself for a return to the NBA,” said Walsh. “I know him to be a young man of the highest character from my relationship with him that dates back 10 years to his rookie year and I think he will be a fine addition to our team both on and off the court.”[NYK|DAL|VT]

Re: Jonathan Bender feel-good story
You've got to be kidding me. If he can contribute and actually play well without crippling himself i'll be shocked.
I cant believe Bender isnt 30 yet he's been around forever. As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"Comment

Re: Jonathan Bender feel-good story
I got to see him play against the Cats tonight. He looked impressive imo, better than I expected honestly. He can definitely shoot the ball. I kind of figured he'd be a work in progress but he's getting minutes over Nate and Hill so it looks like he may be part of the rotation.
He's certainly a bit bulkier now than earlier in his career and he doesn't seem to resemble the same athlete. He looks a little slow out there and hasn't really done anything in the paint, considering his size advantage and the mismatch he creates when he's on the floor.

Re: Jonathan Bender feel-good story
Donnie said that he wanted to sign Bender over the summer but Bender turned it down because he wanted to be in game-shape and 100% ready when he first stepped on the floor, he didn't want to be a work in progress while with the Knicks. He definitely does not look all that athletic, and looks practically 40 years old, but he's done some good things so far. Looks like he has realized his physical limitations and adjusted his game accordingly."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Jonathan Bender feel-good story
So Bender can get 15 mpg but Hill can't even get off his seat.

:
Ridiculous part is that Hill hasn't looked bad this year, just rarely given a chance."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Jonathan Bender feel-good story
I can't wait for the Hill thing to be settled in a few years.
The same points are re-hashed over and over.. but I may as well make this point again: you don't draft a player like Hill in the lottery. However to be fair, there was only two or three players I myself would have taken ahead of Hill coming into the draft.Comment
