Scrap Live?

DISCLAIMER: I am an NBA Live fan and have been for years. This thread has nothing to do with 2k3 as I've played both games and each has their own problems.
___________________________

I'm not a baseball fan...but from what I understand EA completely got rid of their Triple Play Baseball series and replaced it with a brand new game called MVP Baseball.

Also, from what I understand...the NBA Live series has paled for years in comparison to the effort and quality put into EA games like Madden and FIFA Soccer. EA Sports BIG...which created the NBA Street game...also put more care into their first release then Live receives every year.

The NBA Live engine is flawed in a number of ways. The computer still uses super-speed, "sticking" to your players...and now blatant shoving to stop you from scoring on Superstar mode. The franchise mode has a completely and horribly out-of-whack free agency system...draft picks can't be traded...the computer can be raped in trades...player development is off.

Maybe...it's time to give up on this engine and framework for the basketball game and get serious? By all accounts...with the exception of a few people...the NBA Live team should be fired and replaced with people from BIG or other series who are as obsessive about basketball as the Madden and FIFA teams are about football and soccer.

Frankly...I'm tired of requesting dozens upon dozens of tweaks...overhauls...new features...and OLD features each year. It might be time to do away with the root of the problem and not just the symptoms.

Maybe EA should focus on releasing a completely NEW game...MVP Basketball or whatever...for 2005. People from the Madden and FIFA teams and EA Big can begin work on that game now...giving them two years to get together a new framework while the NBA Live team works on their swan song...Live 2004...before being moved to other projects, switched to the new team or outright fired. Freestyle control, the ratings system and one-on-one mode can be kept...but really everything else could probably be thrown out.

NBA games should be easier to make...there are only about 400 players to manage at any given time compared with well over 1,000 in the NFL and world soccer. The draft is smaller than the NFL. There aren't multiple world leagues to be simulated as well as a world cup like FIFA. Basketball is also the most popular sport in the country. The Baseball game has already been overhauled. There's no excuse for EA's basketball series to be the stepchild of their sports label. Maybe it's time that we stop asking for tweaks that seem to never come and start asking for a new game?

Just something to think about...

You are right man. The NBA Live series are falling behind. The improvements every year are to minimal. They have to make drastic, i mean DRASTIC changes to turn this problem around. Because it is a problem. People are not bying the Live series like they used to, that's all because there are no improvements in the game, year after year.

I only got this to say about Live:
MADDENIZE LIVE

I really think that the problem of Live is that the developers dont focus on the most important aspect - realism. I believe that everything will follow if ea's main objective is to make the most realistic game possible. this years Live could've been a great game if ea just focus more on realism than fun. Although i know that there are still ppl who liked this years Live, i think more ppl are beginning to get dissapointed.

The bottom line is...Live sells the BEST.

I much, much prefer ID and 2K...Live is terrible IMO.

However, it outsells the others. Plain and simply it won't change for that reason.

Just like FIFA won't ever be a sim...too many people play it without knowing much about football (soccer) and thus like to pick it up and play. Same with NBA.

To me and you, seeing Stockton swat away Shaq is freaking ridiculous, but the casual guy who knows [censored] all about basketball expects to be able to do it.

Semi sim / semi arcade is THE big seller for all sports except NFL.

I just freaking hope than sega and ID stay down their own paths and keep continuing the sim markets.

I agree, but only with how easy it should be with transactions. I think basketball is the hardest to make in terms of gameplay. There so much stuff to consider.

As a programmer, i cringe at the thought of creating my own basketball game. In football, you can specify what the players should do in a specific play. Basketball is too free form for programmer's not to have a hard time creating an engine. When you think about it, most sport simulations are almost perfect compared to bball sims.

As a former long time fan of live, I would say don't scrap it. I think they had something going this year..........all they have to do is make it more realistic. Another thing they need to do is learn to add on and stop cutting short on certain aspects of the game. If they would learn to build on things and they would have the best basketball game ever!!! But my advice to you is don't wait on EA because, you'll be waiting forever. I learn that this year........so I finally switched to NBA2K3 and might even switch from that to Inside Drive. Now I can really careless what EA does because I have other sims to choose from.

PS Don't be fooled, if it's no good it's no good, EA could careless about your loyalty........If they did then the things you ask for would actually be in the game.

Re: Scrap Live?

I'm with you ZigZag and others! Live has had enough chances. EA only seems to care about how much money it gets, not how real their game is. But don't get rid of Live, its a classic, I just think EA needs to concentrate on GAMEPLAY. Of course, a good franchise mode ALONG with the good gameplay would be nice but a franchise mode with the same gameplay as this year would be a waste of time.

I'm disappointed in EA. This year I've spent countless hours editting the game to make it more realistic. I guess its worked because I play it every week but there's just some flaws editting can't fix.

EA, PLEEEEEEAAAASSSE FIX NBA LIVE!!
